Yes it is true you do get duel invites without people asking you in either private chat or /say, which I despise, but I have only experienced it on the Arispotle server, and I've been on that one and Cho.

Cho is a lot less populated then Ari, making it take a longer time to get the last missions finished as you need a team, but at the same time you don't get the 'duel' kiddies from the Arispotle Silan. Then again you could stick with it there and go to the mainland where all is much better :p

in all honesty i dont think you will be happy here in ryzom... or anywhere else for a matter of fact. you seem to want a game that has nothing but extermly heavy roleplayers, which imho will never exist outside of a PnP game. I just ask if you do decide to contuine and play ryzom, dont try to change things how they are. please have a level of maturity to accept the game for what it is and not what it isnt.

*DISCLAIMER*- before anyone start yelling at me about derailing RPing in the game, please understand that i do enjoy RPing to a extent, and do beleive it is beneficial to the game and the community. But what isnt is someone that gonna cry and whine about what they would like to see the game be (grimjim for example), they will end up being misribiable and leave the game after they poison the community.

Yes Biscuit, I do object in the very strongest terms to your post. Except for your concern about how Zhaky will find Ryzom. Go go Biscuit.

You can't make someone like a game, but you can encourage them to learn more and try it for a while before jumping ship. If however they decide this is not for them, then so what?

"please have a level of maturity to accept the game for what it is and not what it isnt."

That's all well and dandy for people that played the game to mainland for a few months, as they know by then how the game is played and what it is about. But to say it to someone who is trying to learn more about it before making a decision is somewhat premature in my opinion.

MMORPG means Massive Multiplayer Online RolePlaying Game... there is just one problem.. most game developers like to give their game this title, even though there isn't much RP in it.. from what I've heard so far.. you can call ryzom a MMORPG without lying, but it is to some just another MMOG

My plan is to use some time in the trial version, till I figure out how the game works, then I will maybe pay for 1 month (depending on my experience with the game that far) so that I can go to the mainland in search for RP

I do not expect everyone to be heavy RPers as long as the GMs doesn't make say that players have to be that, but as long as they choose to calle it a mmorpg.. I expect the players to respect RP and not try to ruin it.. but as I said before "from what I've heard so far.. you can call ryzom a MMORPG without lying"

Personally i think u shouldnt judge this game and his community by the actions from ppl on free trials, most of them are indeed 13 year olds who googled on free trial, free game or w/e and found ryzom that way.... in some sort of way this game filters them out b4 they even get the max in the free trial simply cuz it is to hard for them :o

I think all your worry's are simply to soon.

Also it is very easy to go and say MMORPG should be a roleplaying game while u know as good as everyone in this topic that isnt the case, if MMORPG's should survive from only RPGers there wouldnt be any around is my opnion ;)

Also what is a improper name? I can rp very good with some1 who wishes to call himself Spearmonkey simply by the fact that is his nickname given by his frequent use of the spear and movements with it liek monkeys... but thats maybe me :)

the name is against the rules first of all... but be aware that the names I mentioned didn't include RP... monkeykid ( is he then a kid of monkeys?.. where do you find monkeys in Ryzom? ) and werewolf ( same question.. where do you find werewolfs in ryzom? )..

yes I know that there's not many mmorpg that actually have RP in it.. and I hate that so freaking much.. if it doesn't contain RP then it shouldn't say RP but only MMOG... I guess the RP part kind of says "be a hero in another world" instead of saying "live the life of another, in another world"

Seeming they are unlikely to be roleplayers how badly does it effect you? They aren't likely to be intertacting with you directly much so their names aren't forced into your roleplaying and if your being strict about roleplaying you wouldn't be able to see their name above their heads anyway right?

Or if it is something that you can't ignore try viewing it as just an unusal name? After all as you point out there are no monkeys, wolves or were's of any kind in Ryzom so maybe they had odd parents who were on something when they named them. Not like it doesn't happen in real life.

That one is a long discussion waiting to happen and one that will go no where. Best left as people have a diferent definitions of RPG when it is used as a computer game definition but that doesn't mean both sides can't enjoy their playstyles without causing each other trouble.

Silan, the starting island, has many people who come there to try the game, who know nothing of the lore, mechanics, or much of anything else... some may be interested in RP, many aren't. Not very well suited for RP, unfortunately.
The mainland has more players with more knowledge of the world, who already know the mechanics of the game... much better for a bit of roleplaying, and as has been stated already, even those who don't roleplay will usually oblige those who do to a certain extent, even to the point where non-roleplayers have spoken in brackets to signify OOC communication.

As for the duels... Some of that happens on Silan, but it's easy to just say no... if the same homin follows you and does it repeatedly, file a report as harassment. I have never had this happen on the mainland. Some homins will ask, and although I rarely duel, it does not bother me in the slightest.

For finding others to roleplay with, look for a high-RP guild. There are many to choose from. Although you maybe won't find the level of roleplaying you're after on Silan, you can still join one of these guilds and use guild chat, or some might come to Silan on a different character to play with you. You shouldn't rush through your experiences on the island just to get to the mainland, because it teaches you very much about the game.

I hope you do decide to try it, and give Ryzom the chance it deserves. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Illegal names? LOL! FFS, dont come here and think you can tell them what to be named. Those names arent offensive in ANY way.

If you come to the mainland.
