Sorry if that came across as a flame but in any constructive discussion of it I think you do have to take into consideration the game balance of it, if you can get the game balance somewhere that works then work on the story explenation because there is little point adding ageing to a game if it's completely unbalanced. Personaly I don't think you can have ageing and non ageing players on the same server, you'd be basicaly setting one set of players up above the others in terms of power. If you felt it was needed in the game then seperate servers with different rules on aging so that all the players on the same server work from the same base and to the same rules.clyne wrote:Well I guess it doesn't matter and everyone has their own opinion. If this is such a harsh topic for several to digest - sorry that I brought it up.
Its still open up for constructive discussion to actually make suggestions to make it work. Than say no, no and more nos. Without suggesting or thinking better ways to make this work.
Otherwise discussion ended and I would be more than glad to request closure of the thread.
Understand that I, the person who brought it up here don't wish my characters to age - I would simply hate it if that were to happen beyond my control. The idea behind this thread is not an yes or no debate or flame but instead to find a way to make this work. We all know it wouldn't be implemented in-game. I cant see game forge too making such huge changes.

Those Charakters that are allready there and do look older simply so so because they are. Remeber, we are not the first wave to hit the new lands, somebody must have built all the citys and stuff y´know?
The NPCs running around that look older are simply those that came before us to the new lands and did their part in helping to build a new home for us and them. And there isn´t any set age of "now you go of to the new lands", some simply went on their way later in life, other earlier.
Then as they aged they settled down as merchants, stable "boys", Gurads and whatever.
They ain´t got to secret potion of ageing or not ageing, neither have we.
If any of the Devs will ever truly thing about giving us such an option, yes I agree it would be pretty cool from an RPG point of view (I´m an avid player myself) but well... as was allready said. It would mess with balance in one way or the other pretty badly.
Especially if it comes now and wasn´t there from the beginning, to get used to and as a main starting point for each if us. If that had been the case, it would be much easier, ´cause we we´d allready be used to it and all balance issues would be solved allready

Yes I can see that working, permadeath doesnt fit ryzom at all on a second thought, but the problem here is most us hate wrinkles it seems ^.^' So how to make it work, some like their characters to age and some dont.

I fail to understand, what does power has anything to do with this? The people who wish to age can and then those who dont wish to age dont have to, by say doing something once a month or so - if its something like a consumable having it in your appartment would allow your character to consume it during your long absense or so. Its all the freedom of choice I think. Maybe I misread your post

Well if thats the case now that we are here, and settled, why aren't we aging? or does aging affect only the original settlers?acridiel wrote: The NPCs running around that look older are simply those that came before us to the new lands and did their part in helping to build a new home for us and them. Re: Homin Aging...
I am personally in favour of anything that adds to the 'realism' of the game.
There are many aspects to consider when implementing such a feature....
Are stats age related, young/mature/elderly caps ?
Is the faction points cap higher for older characters ?
Is the appearance only a graphic 'detail' ?
Is permanent death to be implemented ?
Is recovery rates from injury effected by age ?
Will enhancements use (cats for example) age you faster ?
I welcome the 'graphic' enhancement we have now...I am open to suggestions regarding more features....but I know that permanent death is something I would not agree too.
Besides...Zorai don't worry about 'minor' distractions such as personal facial appearance

Re: Homin Aging...
Unfortunitly power has alot to do with MMOs. Alot of players focus on achievement and like to get every advantage they can get to be good at what they want to do in game. Getting the best weapons and armor or more players learn the combat skill lines that are considered 'best' then just going for the one they like the idea of best. Players also tend to dislike being 'punished' comparitively to other players for picking a choice they like the idea off, look at discussions on these boards about neutrals and teleports.clyne wrote:I fail to understand, what does power has anything to do with this? I think freedom of choice isn't hurt be seperate servers. Players that want one or the other could go to the server with it and know everyone else is playing to the same rules and not getting an advantage over them in crafting or combat or PvPer/outpost battles and polotics.
Another option if it has to be on the same server, make the ageing purely cosmetic. You don't lose skills or equipment when you die of old age. All you'd have to do is redo your characters looks like at character generation and pick a new name. Maybe you could give players doing that a family tree window too showing their character names and who was decendeded from who. As for why you don't age compared to some, make it something the kami or karavan do for their most loyal followers. A sort of bribe to be on their side.
Re: Homin Aging...
I would love to be able to buy an older look from say the cosmetic merchant. Anyone else fancy that option?
After all I have aged 40 years now = 10 Jena Years
As to the notion of permadeath, I don't think that would be a cool thing if it was a forced ingame mechanic. Besides, who says a homin can't reach an age of say 300 - 400 years?

Re: Homin Aging...
In the last game I played that had the option I don't think I ever saw anyone use it but still it sounds like a nice little characters look option.karmelit wrote:I would love to be able to buy an older look from say the cosmetic merchant. Anyone else fancy that option?![]()
Re: Homin Aging...
That´s because Homins age at aproximately the same rate then Humans do. As was stated a few times by Marjo and other Nevraxersclyne wrote:

![]()

The appartent year-cycle isn´t a real time year. Time does not run faster on Atys then on earth, just the seasons do.
The planet revolves faster.
I can´t find the english version of the Atys time table right now but there are cycles and years, if I remember correctly, cycles refere to the Seasons change. Years to RL-Years.

Would you like to look into the mirror a few month from now and find yourself aged several years?

The thing again is, should it have the "normal drawbacks"?
Meaning, dementia and well... power loss?
I think it could be quite funny seeing an "old fart of a Fyros" with gray hair and a wooden wheelchair, leveling next to a spritly young tryker and both doing the same damage.

Would that be "realism"?
No I guess.
But why then implement "youth berries" to stay young? (Realism?)
Why not stay young in the first place?
If they are there and ageing has drawbacks, everyone will take them. I guarantee you that.
Ok, if you decide not to take them and age, would you want drawbacks with that? Again no, I guess. Because it would mean that one day you would not be able to level/hunt anymore so again why not stay young?
Realism in games is a wonderfull thing, for it´s never realy real.

Edit:But it would still be cool and fun to age a bit nonetheless.
A slider at character creation would be very cool, yes.
