I see two things here. One is a matter of game-mechanic. The other is a matter of role-play. Both have positives and both negatives.

My char is a Kami-influenced Matis. I decided that about halfway through my play so far (about 1.5 months). I have still yet to get off the island. I will not deal with the Karavan at all. Under the current system, I will be telported to my "home" city, where the Karavan will surround me and there will be few Kami to nurture my growth. ((I know that there are Kami and Karavan in each city.))

If I were to be able to be teleported to another city it might be more expensive, but I could study with the Kami and learn their ways as I want to.

That is one aspect of the role-playing. Not every Matis/Tryker/Zora/Fyros is a patriot. Some of us had unhappy childhoods.

Otoh, if you are going to be a patriot, going to the home city is right for you.

Sounds all good to me. People will still want to trek everywhere anyhow, and with their group of buddies from Silan they are more likely to try to do so by themselves - more power to them! :D

Great move, Rangers.

What's the problem with people going to different lands? As a few people have pointed out they can be trekked to see there friends.

Well, they still can be! Only now they are trekked with their friends to see the world.

Well, thank you for confirming my worst fear here Marjo.
It is allready set in stone. It WILL be changed.
Why then let us discuss it in the first place?

To quote Marvin the Marsian:
"Oh, this makes me very angry. Very angry indeed!"

It's not set in stone, Acridiel, look at the original post :

Presumably, as with Spires if serious problems arise from discussion here then they might change their plans.

Just feels like dumbing down to me, weakens the Uniqueness of the races more, which is the opposite of what we need, negates to some extent the need for lowbie treks which can be some of the most awesome early experiences of Atys.

Getting the game more simple more casual, nothing more.... Where is the challenge of trecks to other lands? where is the hardships and excitement of your friends trying to reach you across the continent???

I could understand such changes on Cho where there are 10,5 people on if you are lucky, but not on the main International shard...

Imho this will only spoil the game...

It is not that there are 10 - 15 people online on Cho, it is that most people on Cho have the universe chat bocked due to countless spam :)

thats not what i meant ;) u know what i mean lol :P

to get back on topic: I dont see the harm in this, i can imagine how u can feel it lowers the use of races, but after all they will start with a BIG penalty if they choose to go to another city then their races capital.
