this cat problem leaves me bitter and infuriated.
To put is shortly:

how the losing side is supposed to be competitive, when they have to spend twice as much time to attain the same level as their opponents?

That's ridiculous.
Sounds like cats are why they're leaving to me. If its not then maybe they should give a real reason instead of blaming it on cats

When you get double xp for the same action, you level up twice as fast. Please refute me on this.

When you have two sides struggling in any game (be it an MMO, or a real life situation), and one is gaining the upper hand, then people tend to migrate over to the winning side. Not directly switching side (tho some players do switch sides - but noone really trusts turncoats). New players join more willingly the winning side, and some people from the losing side simply quit the game in greater numbers.

Now, this a normal phenomenon, because people are made like this. People like to win.

It's the devs' duty to balance things actively, by actions, tweaks, brakes, changes in game if necessery. Otherwise you get the snawball effect, all by itself.

Now, if instead of helping balance, devs throw in cats...

You only lvl twice as fast if you get double XP on EVERY action. No one has enough crystals to use them on EVERYTHING they do- at least no one I know.

If someone uses cats 50% of their hunting time, they're only lvling 50% faster.

If they use all their cats on harvest and craft, their combat skill will lvl the same exact speed as someone without cats.

And Kami have cats as well. For Karavan to level twice as fast, Kami would have to have NONE. That is not the case.

If cats are the reason for anyone leaving...its a bad one, and if so..then i'd happen to guess that MMO's are the wrong games for you in the firstplace. It takes about 2 months or so..playin regularly to max a skilltree w/out cats. Thats pretty fast for a mastering of any class in the MMORPG universe
Even then its not like its some chore, and if it is...then by all means take a break.

Even if Team Jena had 100% of the OPs, the amount of cats produced would still be less than the amount of players that would need them in order to truely level twice as fast. Yes, cats help you level faster, but only twice as fast if you had a near infinite supply.

Still, I agree, i don't think they were a good idea for outposts. If we could have them replaced with something just as valuable, but in a different way, I would be happier.

Though, it would help if team kami would, you know, show up for the fights.

(and, the first person who says the phrase "positive feedback loop" deserves a kick to the head)

There are some guilds out there with abundant supply of cats. And the OPs are more and more concentrated in one hand. To train up a healer its enough to use cats on the core skills like one melee branch, and healing. I used some q100 cats on PR dig, but everything other went to heal, or melee (for hp). And I even digged around 8000 mats for cats. I'm not that far from lvl250. But thats just a side remark, my main point is not this.

The devs should fight imbalance with the game mechanics, not increase it any further. Thanks for the exact terminus technicus. If you create a positive feedback loop, things get out of hand quickly.

I don't think Kara and Kami players differ from each other that much. I'm Kami because all my friends are Kami. And I fight for them, not for some blurry ideal, or lore. Had I been recruited by a Kara guild, I would be kara now. I just love the community (including even most of the kara side), its the best game community I encountered so far. I don't blame the winning side for the current situation.

I have a feeling that I'm fighting not the other faction, but more and more against the flawed game mechanics, and the devs behind it. They assisted in and promoted the creation of the current situation.
