Your pretty much correct only stuff to worry about atm on the guns themselves are the speed and range stats, I wouldnt worry about sap load unless you specifically wanted to use alot of enchants and yes only important stat on ammo is the damage, anything less then max damage ammo is not good, I personally have never worried about the lightness stat.

Never seen a throwing sword before? How about now?
See, we just set a crate over here as a target, then I walk back over here with my sword, swing it around...
*lets go of sword*
*sword sails lopsidedly through the air*
*hilt of the sword bounces off of the crate*
*sword plunges tip-first into the ground*
There ya go.

I did a few short calculations on range. At the moment, I am around mid-30's in range. I am shooting 4star blue plants. It takes about 14 shots to kill one, and I get 2200 XP. That is about 150XP per shot, and that does not include the XP gained from digging the mats, and the XP from crafting the ammo.

there is 2 type of ammo for ranged gun. only "not degraded max dmg" ammo, higher or equal than you gun/skil is useful, other type of ammo is just wasted bulk.
not saying that you didnt use max dmg ammo, but often new range users dont think it's important.
second, shooting plants is waste of bullets. because range user can (and should) run while soloing, targets needs to be low hp and slow moving mobs (plants are slow alright, but they have tons of hp).
for up to lvl 85, i suggest clopper/goari as your main targets. (mid-30 should experiment with launcher, 3 shots and pack of goari's are dead.. and it's fun
another thing to keep in mind.... if you do go launcher, trying to kill one target solo, is waste of ammo.

Thanks, I made the ammo myself, and it was about 75% max dmg. I am only shooting guns I can make, with ammo I make. Launchers will be next

Never occurred to me to try running...didn't expect to be able to shoot at something behind me while running away from it, but for some reason it works. That just...isn't right. That's not rifle combat. I guess I'll just leave it alone until it's revamped--though the ranged elitists in that thread seem to pride their 'skill' of running in circles so I imagine there would be an outcry it it were changed too much. Oh well.

I don't think anyone implied that it takes 'skill' to run in a circle... well not any more then it takes to push a few buttons.
Interestingly enough if you go back in the forums there was a similar complaint ... and those who wished to not have to move while shooting where refered to as the elitists.
Personally I don't give a hoot which way it goes, so long as it is still fun and functional. I suspect the majority of the ranged users would feel the same, but I am not authorized to speak for them.

Using you current ranged skills to shoot and move is not bad with current limitations. If/when they fix/tweak this skilltree they need to balance those things. If we must stand toe to toe, we willl need them dodge/parry/crit skills to really matter. Currently them earned skills don't benefit a ranger. Rangers don't have it easy at all and shouldn't. They need some love, no doubt...
I tinker in guns, mostly for OP Battles and when my guildies want to humor me...

My point about rifle combat was that the whole point of a gun is to kill something before it gets to you in the first place. Maybe 5 years as a soldier and 3 more as a cop have biased me on how ranged combat should work?

While I agree that's how it works in RL, I don't see how that would make the game more interesting.
If you want a skill where your goal is to kill before the target closes the distance, then you can do elemental magic. Why repeat the experience with ranged?
Currently, the run-and-gun method is unique in the game. If you want a mobile fighting style, its your only option.
Why remove it and replace it with a fight style we already have?
