Just saw this and it reminded me of another game.
What someone did was make doll, representative of a particular iconic item in the game and then got all the people interested in participating, to put their names in a post on the forum.
The names were collated according to nationality, then an itenerary was planned for its trip around the world, in a particular direction, so when you received the doll, you knew to whom you should send it next.
Each recipiant added something representative of their character in-game/nationality to the parcel and a note and the sent it to the next person.
it was siimilar community spirit to Ryzom there, I guess thats why this feels so much like home.
On a side note to illustrate this spirit, a member was very badly affected with some flooding in europe at the time and lost his whole record collection.
A guy came up with an idea to help him, it would have seemed too crass to send money, so he found out what stuff he had lost.
Then we had a whip 'round and sent a certain amount of dollars to this guy and he went to loads of second hand shops and eventually replaced all the guys lost music and posted it to him.
Still makes me feel all warm and tingly inside
