I guess this is goodbye
Re: I guess this is goodbye
One thing you might want to consider is something that has helped me fix my crashing problems with SoR and that's to disable dual channel for your memory (that is if you have two sticks of RAM and dual channel enabled) you might take a performance hit but it could help...
Re: I guess this is goodbye
driver's or memory imo
if you've been on Klients then i am probably just repeating what has been said
1) run memtest (which you have already from previous posts)
if no good then
2) disable sound
still no luck
3) try forcing openGL or D3d - whichever you arent using when it crashes
and finally
4) use older drivers
i have a fairly high end system which crashes constantly if i use new drivers, only in Ryzom all other games are fine. I am using nvidia drivers from 18 months ago and everything runs perfectly.

Re: I guess this is goodbye
It seems that most of the games these days are being designed around nVidia's product line. I have a lesser computer and a crappy ole GeForce 5200 FX, but Ryzom runs like butter.
Good luck with the trouble shooting, hopefully it works out for you and you stick around

Re: I guess this is goodbye
your main problem would be a cheap mainboard. i have seen this hundreds of times.
instead of wasting lots of words, i will give you one advice.
increase the cas latency of your ram as high as you can AND lower the fsb of your ram as far as you can.
i have given this advice countless players who all swore their machines were fully stable and it helped about 80%-90% of them. if you really do like ryzom as you say, then you will try this, if only to say you did try it. if you don't want to try it, goodbye.
about the list of games up there: all of these are very nice, but they only tax single parts if your machine. none of these force your cpu to perform countless prediction calculations for the in-world objects, while pushing gigabytes of sound, map and texture data, which is constantly changing, through your mainboard's buses and ram to your various periphery devices, while also forcing the graphics card to perform in high-load mode.
the last game that i KNOW about to do all the above was soulreaper.

Re: I guess this is goodbye
I had similar issues and thought SoR was buggy, since like the original poster I've run many games fine without crashing.
However, running memtest showed me I had intermittent memory errors - 2 errors in the first 20 minutes of testing. Replacing my RAM solved these crashes.
Then, since I wanted to see Atys in all its glory I upgraded my video card. That crashed (BSOD) infrequently, maybe once every couple of nights. I was chalking that up to bad drivers, but on the off chance it was my power supply (new card said 500w power supply required, I had a HQ 380) I upgraded to a 500w power supply. Since then, no crashes.
So I'd have to second all the voices saying SoR is not at fault, it's just demanding...

Well, I may not be leaving after all
Zerlin on Klients had me do a couple of things:
- remove string_cache files in the data folder
- set my virtual memory to a fixed size, instead of dynamic
and my machine has run three days of Ryzom without a crash. I have hope

edit: Ciri, I have been playing my alt on Cho for two weeks, read my post on the OoTN boards. Not leaving, just have alt-aholism bad

Fantastic news Olepi. I knew they'd get you sorted out.olepi wrote:Well, I may not be leaving after allZerlin on Klients had me do a couple of things:

Re: I guess this is goodbye
I had been having problems with SoR that didn't happen with other programs.
New drivers helped some.
What really did it was mounting an external fan to my case and keeping the temp down.
