Sorry to see you go and even more sorry that you found nothing to do on Atys. I hope you find the place for your gaming style and I wish you the best of luck.

Have you ever stood on Kippee Mull outside of Min-Cho, digging in the rain, and watching the raindrops turn to steam as they hit the ground? Have you ever been to Dyron where the Master of AFK stands motionlessly for hours in front of the kami tp? Have you been to Bounty Beaches in the Lakelands to know why no one ever digs there? Have you seen Wyac, named torbac of the Upper Bog, kill hapless diggers and run away woofing in joy?

Did you ever met Vhalior, owner of the first Atys harem and Master of When will you marry me? Or Trixie who leads the Sirens of Atys, all girls toon guild mostly like full of men roleplaying girls? Do you know Pero, the supreme egotist of Atys, and the most teased Guild Leader of Aeden Artisans? Have you met Jelathina and the Order of the Dragonblades, one of the most dedicated guilds to roleplaying alive on Atys? Or Lurena of 3Vs guild one of the oldest guilds on Atys and dedicated to the path of neutrality as is the Order? You wouldn't have met Dardis, who was handicapped in real life, suffered mightily to play everyday and who when he passed had a whole thread dedicated to him and his memory. Obiviously, you never met Kiwi Fruit, Master Healer of Killing Melee while earning maximum experience points, who chats to everybody and is known far and wide on Atys?

A game is what you make of it and I hope you find the game that makes it for you. And you are right, grinding is a huge part of gameplay here, if you let it be. It's misery when you only have hours to play and few are in the region you're in, doing whatever it is you're doing. To deny that many have left because they've felt the same way you feel is to bury our heads in the sand and become only the fanboys and girls many of them see in the ones who have stayed.

Have you ever considered that most of the "have you ever" questions may be of little to no interest to the original poster? have you ever considered that counting the number of skin spots in a varinx skin may be boring as hell? have you ever thought of considering that some of the points subtly raised may actually be true? have you ever considered that Ryzom is basically evolutionary rather than revolutionary? have you ever considered answering to these posts in a less condescending way?

While I'm sorry to see a player leaving, I did leave, but came back after realising there is nothing out there that compares to Ryzom.

The fact that you mention Second Life is strange, you shoose to compare a game that has absolutely nothing in common with Ryzom.

In all MMO's, you have to spend time levelling up so you can take part in better content. Maybe the class you chose does not suit your playstyle.
I started as melee up to 191 and got fed up, tried Healing up to 155, got bored with it, but it sure is handy, I came back and started Elemental and realised that this is waht please me most, I'm 234 now and loving every minute of it.

But apart from the grind, I just happen to love the planet, nightime in Fyros, Snow in Matis, the waterworld of Tryker are just breathtaking.
Guilds are very good at enhancing your enjoyment, I even did forage up to 85 so I can help our diggers by careplanning.

Samsara used to have a thing called Rashans Bootcamp, it gave you a good grounding in Atys and a structured way of enhancing your entry into the world. They also RP alot IIRC and are a nice bunch of people to hang out with.

But I recommend staying until you find a gulld/class that suits you before leaving, as there is no MMO comparable to Ryzom out there at the moment and you may be walking away from the actual game you are looking for in the first place.

The community is the most helpful/generous/humerous I have encountered in MMO's, if you do not realise this already, I would put the blame at you doorstep rather than the community, get out there and team up with others so you can kill higher level mobs than Izams....unless you go Offensive Mage... if thats the case...stick with Izams :)

Thanks for the mention :)

And its now "Slythes Bootcamp" as Rashan took an extended leave of absence (with our dapper no less!)... but we'll get 'im sooner or later!

This is what makes a mmorpg different than other games: there is no ending, no way to "win". In some RPG type games, you follow quests and finally do the last quest, and you WIN. Then you stop playing, saying "I beat the game!"

In MMORPG's, the journey is the game, not the ending. You can have as much fun at level 10 as a 100. Levelling helps you uncover new goodies, powers, etc, but usually does not fundamentally change the game; you still:

- fight and kill stuff
- harvest, dig, and craft
- buy sell stuff
- learn new skills, get better equipment
- see new areas

That is about it, in all MMORPG's. If your goal was to get to the "end", then you perceive the game as a "grind fest". If you just like being in the environment, talking to the people around you, then you can have fun whether you level or not. Levelling is just a way to get the next goodie, not a way to "win" the game.

To the original OP: perhaps these mmorpg type games are not for you. Maybe Oblivion or KOTR or something would be better, a game with a definitive progression and an ending point where you've won. What other mmorpg's have you played that you did like? How was that different than Ryzom?
