With all due respect...

Based on the window that pops up and explains the purpose of the channel, anything aside from the intended use of the channel is technically innappropriate.

The chatter caused me issues when I was newer, and I generally field my questions to people I have met since then, with a few exceptions. From the perspective of someone who was left without help from the Q&A channel because of the chatter, back when I didn't yet know anyone, it's frustrating to see people justify abuse of the Universe channel.

*edit* - I would like to point out that I see no issue with social interaction at all... but a seperate channel is needed for it, if the Universe channel is intended for Q&A only.

Should be a separate one for chatting... Set it up so you can only use it on the mainland if your worried about newbies talking about other games in it... But if the community is what most of us believe or think it is then it shouldn't be a prob... I personally only log on to chat from time to time anymore... Because I don't really have the time to play.

However I do think the talk about other games should be silenced... But to stop all chatting is hiding one of the best parts of the game to me... the Community... And blah blah region should do... blah bla... not really alot of regions are quite quiet and to just use region can be pretty lonely. and for the Blah Blah...guild chat Blah... Some people are in very small or solo guilds that can be lonely aswell.

Let me be honest here, I am ALWAYS getting into trouble for chatting in uni, but usually when theres been no one else around to talk to. Theres one simple reason for this, and that is homins are social creatures and we want to make friends.
It would seem sensible to me that there should be a 'help chat' for new people to ask questions, manned by people who KNOW the answers and then a uni chat for the rest of us saddos to talk about nonsense!
When I've asked about this, I was told that the obvious problem with this, as well as any chat on the internet is that it is open to abuse. This would mean either there being a 24hr uni chat moderator or leaving it to us to self police. Although most players are adults, I have run into one or two children who play (my sons both do) and as such we as a community need to ensure they are safe. I mean to cast no aspersions here. I know that there is a requirement on forums to do age checks, if thats done for the chats and we retain that all power 'ignore' button I think a universal chat would be a good thing. Its like this of course, if you don't want to contribute to or listen to mindless drivel...do like you do on the TV and switch the channel!!!

i agree, the Channel should have been Called "Help", not Universe.
But i have to say since EVERYONE knows exactly why that channel is there they cannot take it the wrong way if another PLAYER tells them not to use that channel for everyday chit chat (surely we cant leave everything to the GM's/Guides, i think they have enough stuff to do). i personally feel, if ppl abuse this channel then some questions will get missed, yeah it has gone for hours sometimes with nothing being said, but i have seen it when the txt scrolls so fast, you can actually struggle to keep up with everything said, this being said, i will not use the Universe channel now as i cant be bothered reading reading alot of Bull some ppl can actually say in "Around" Chat (yes i have seen this happen, 2 ppl diggin together and talking in Universe, I am guessing they like others to hear what they say, even though most of it means nothing to new players).
