I prefer to think of PR as still part of the surface, only with an exceptional amount of roots covering it. Since face it, there are still rays of light poking through the ceiling down there, and the mobs you find there are the same as anywhere on Atys.

(Take RL as an example, things who live in caves are a LOT different than their surface-dwelling counterparts. Excepting bats, all of them are blind and look albino. In PR, some mobs look albino, but others look just the same, and afaik, none of them are blind (although Tyranchas need some glasses ;) ) The only major difference is their HP, which isn't too surprising, since all over Atys mobs differ in HP amounts. Mektoubs can go from Suckling to Voracious for example. Think of PR as just another step up.)
