Is there _ANY_ self benefit from being a 250 healer?

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

No offence, but why try out a new game and want it to be exactly like the game you just left?

From personal experience, if you want to play the same game with different graphic and text, EQ II is almost identical, and both WoW and EQ II are changing to become like each other.

One thing to note tho, EQ II and WoW both have moved away from static mob placement and now have the mobs interact with each other, something Ryzom had before it was released to the public.

as i said before, you can level multiple skills to 250... that means elemental magic or melee as well as healing... so you get that chance to defend yourself.

However, I'm pretty sure its safe to say this game is not for you. I took the liberty of providing a link to game that you may be interested in though: Link

Good job assuming I want a game just like WoW.
WoW's endgame is raiding - I don't have 6 hours a night now to raid so there is no way for me to advance.
This game, on the other hand, seems to have some major flaws in it. Death penalty is harsh because sometimes you can't avoid death (a mob that resists x5 or 6 monsters that spawn and chase you), dp when you lose in a DUEL, healers that don't have any benefit, and the lack of being able to PvP alone without the need for a group.

It was nice experimenting with this game for the last couple of days, but I'm out.

:p so anyone up for another one of Acri's famous recipies?

too bad you had to leave - a lvl 250 healer doesnt "tank" a lvl 250 healer learns to avoid attacks by dodging.

-if you raised your melee, and learned to become an expert chicken (like me :p ) you could ... fight - once your health gets low use a self-heal to boost it back up, wait till it goes down again - toss on a Protect (melee, magic, range) spell and keep wacking, and then if all else fails - you turn on your invuln and run your ass off like a little chicken :p

-we used to be able to heal ourselves and i remember trekking from Pyr to Matis all by myself as like a lvl 50 healer or some laughably low number. - this bieng while serving huge kitins my tasty then-blue flesh. (and its true once you go blue you never go back.. but i guess i made a mistake and i'm no longer blue ... >.> oops :p )

as an afterthought - if you were listening to Lady Morgaine - she was telling you ya can raise all of your levels - not just heal. personally i'm an all-rounded player, with all of my skills at almost a minimum of 100, ranging up to 170. - when i'm healing (lvl 160) and i get attacked by a beast - i can easily switch to my melee (150) and go "BAD DOGGY, DIE!" and put my mits back on to continue healing.

Ryzom is a team sport. learn to pass the ball around.

What it seems you were not understanding is that this game is NOT WOW. In Saga of Ryzom the job of the healer is to Heal the rest of the Team NOT be the Tank, the Melee's are. The game was designed to be that way. You also seem to think that these are "classes" when in fact they are not, they are Skills. Good Healers are always sought after as they allow a team to take on things they wouldnt otherwise take on.

Mobs that resist 5x, well that just happens to be the "Roll of the Dice". You got unlucky. Even me at 226 in Elemental magic get resisted that often sometimes. Its a risk we run for having the Highest damage capability.

6 mobs spawning on you and chasing ya, well it just so happens you were standing then in the middle of the "spawn zone". Aggro creatures dont like us Homins being there so...they Chase you. Hopfully one would learn and go "Oh, I must have been where they respawn, next time ill stay a bit further away from there."

Duels are an unfortuanate thing, only reason you should get DP from a duel is if someone does not rez you before your auto respawn timer runs out. If you click respawn before anyone gets a chance thats your fault not the Devs.

PvP, you can do it Solo. Duno where you heard that you have to group to "PvP". Sure some cases it would be nesscary, such as OP battles, where you have one or more Guilds fighting another Guild or more. But you can PvP solo....

Now being one who tried to explain this stuff to you in game in universe chat, and to see you come here and make same complaints again, and say your leaving...Well not sure if im sorry or not but prolly leaning twards...Im not sorry to see you leave.

If mobs are spawning and chasing you, you're stood in the spawn. Move.

You dont get dp for losing a duel unless no one rezs you, which is almost unheard of.

Healers do have a benefit, just not a selfish one.

I PvP alone alot.

The game isnt flawed, your mindset is, why come to a new game expecting it to be identical to other ones.

death penalty is a joke (and i do get max dp per death [462k] DP when i die, does not affect a thing.) max dp is only 4.6mil which you can recover _really_ fast.

and duel needs to give you dp if you respawn or you could just duel-die-respawn in other side of map for free travel. before you duel, make sure you opponent is able to rez you, simple. (dieing from PvP, flagged or in PvP area, dont give you dp btw)

zokee wrote:In WoW, I had a 60 (max) priest with full epic equipment. A healer. I could heal myself to become the _BEST_ tank in PvP, and my playstyle is being highly defensive using self heals to keep myself alive through anything.

I guess Ryzom isn't for me, I'm not into leveling all the way to 250 for no self benefit whatsoever other than popularity.
If you participate in a large outpost battle you will see that it's the healers that win the fight. All in all Ryzom is designed to be more cooperative than WoW, I guess highly competative players will find themselves feeling a little lost here. The game is not about getting the epicest gear (am I wrong?).

The HP you have in light armor is far too low to be tanking against the really big kitins, if you're lucky to withstand 1 attack the next will kill you. A self healing healer in LA would do nothing but self heal himself until the mob crits and he's history. EDIT: well, not true - self heal is an instant cast so there is no malus from wearing Heavy Armor, meaning all Tanks can self heal themselves, if it was no cooldown we wouldn't have use for healsers at all.

Another thing, there's nothing to see as level 250 that you can't experience at level 1 (with a team, of course) except small-team/solo PvP.

If you don't like the way healer skills work in Ryzom, just play another skill school. Some people like the selfless nature of a Healer here, just cus it doesn't suit you doesn't mean its done wrong. Just play what you have fun with most. :)
