I like the idea of ring as an RP content tool, letting you say.. build a guild village instance, or such.. fleshes out the world in a more dynamic customised way. It would be nice if we had 'social' items, crafted.. like mundane clothing and decorations for one's home and such.

R2 is an open ended 'content' creation tool. A near-bottomless pit of customisable content.

I think we need more 'tools'. Raw ingredients rather than TV dinners.

I don' t think anyone would deny the possibilities R2 could possibly offer, or how it eventually may help Nevrax in developping certain aspects in the game faster, without resorting to the things you listed like increasing level caps or quest-oriented gameplay. But ... I would have to agree to a point with DT on it being more of an immediate outward expansion, possibly catering to only those that take a direct interest in 'creating' personalized content for the time being.

R2 will open up a whole new scope of possibilities but at the meantime Nevrax needs to start focusing fast on the missed opportunities present in the living breathing world that is Atys.

What is the use of faction allegiance? What is the use of civilization allegiance? Where are the specialised titles when attaining higher rankings of fame? Where are the special knowledge or rites trusted on to those loyal? What can I do to help my faction/civ grow stronger or stand out as a champion of my faith/culture? How do I leave a mark? What is the current use of tribal fame? Will we ever be able to discover lost knowledge of the Civilisations of Old? Where can you gain knowledge on the Rangers of Atys or the Guild of Elias, maybe even help them? When will the Guildhall upgrades allow me to access Guildrites, or Guildtrainers, upgrades for our Outpost(s)? Ah, the Canopy, the Lower Roots? Tryker ferries? Mektoub caravans? The Goo? The Kitin threatening our lands constantly? The Marauders and Matoxia?

This is only a small sample of things (save a few, but seem to be somewhat abandonned for far to long) that either only have a pure RP use, are minor gamemechanics or aren' t even present in the game at all.

You have a gem of a game in your hands Nevrax but it' s still a little rough on the edges.

An awesome RP tool IS content, but then we're back to people defining content again.

its not content. its fluff, at least it will be for quite a while until people truly get the tools mastered and Nevrax starts taking an active role in the instances. The instances can be fun, interesting, even tell a good story, but when it comes down to it, its not related to Ryzom. The events that take place there have no bearing on the world of Atys. If I wanted to I could create a map where Jena joins the Kami in killing off the Karavan or a map where the Matis are made extinct (or even create that Penisville that Jessica was talking about), but none of it takes place in Atys, nor has any bearing on it. It truly is a RP tool in that anything that takes place there is only a RP thing. If you want it to relate to Atys, you have to RP that it does.

So, for all intents and purposes, its fluff. Its nice to have, its fun to have, but is it the meat and bones of Ryzom? no, I don't think it is. Its not story driven (how do you explain instances in a storyline sense? "rips in space-time"?), it has no bearing on the living world of Atys, and to those not interested in R2, it offers nothing all that interesting.

As for Judy's comment about raw ingedients/frozen dinners. Frozen dinners come ready to eat and are essentially the same as the final product of the raw ingredients. We just have to enjoy the flavors we're handed. The raw ingredients require the preparer to know how to cook. As I'm sure we're all aware, many people think they can cook, but they really can't. As a result, we will see that many of the products of those ingredients are much less enjoyable than that quick, frozen dinner.

But 10% is gold and one great chef can cook for many people. What happens in (some) of those scenarios will affect the mainland and, it seems, will provide an alternate revenue stream for Crystals at least.

hence, my saying at first it would be fluff. And considering Nevrax's speed at past projects, I wouldn't expect to have those being made permanent or storyline related for a long time after release. Thats part of the reason why I say that those not interested in R2 (or wading through the instances of people attempting to learn the tools) won't actually be getting anything of any real value.

I don't think you chaps really have a valid complaint on that score. R2 on the other hand will be catering to 'the other lot' who do have a legitimate beef.

More areas/ency quests etc would be a third (and crossing over) subset.
