Personally i think they should make this game PvE again so all these discussions have an end and the ppl that left cause of PvP come back again ... and besides that its awesome chatprogram after all
If the desire of the PvP crowd truly is challenge, and not 'pwning' then there is a halfway house solution which I think would work.
Human opponents think, right? The challenge is that they learn tactics, do unpredictable things and so forth.
The problem for many of us with PvP is we don't actually want to fight our fellow players, we don't like the one-upmanship, the community destroying competition, the smack talk and everythign else that goes with it.
Three solutions I see (Not for Ryzom) are...
1. GM/Guide controlled mobs - The guides can posess and control mobs/groups during events in whatever game, controlling them, springing surprises, using powers in interrelated ways etc to provide a more challenging event.
2. Have a dual login. You can either login as your player, or as a monster NPC (randomly determined) - similar to volunteering to 'monster' in a LARP, when you login as a monster you get random control of an NPC/Mob somewhere in the land and get to control them until they get killed, when you get the chance to spawn as another one. You could earn monstering points which could then be traded in for things for your actual character.
3. PvP/PK that actually has negative consequences for the person doing it.
