Well, I play a hunter/armor crafter/harvester. The only issue I have with the loot system (assuming harvested mats are as a general rule considerably better than mob drops) is the huge number of mats required to make a full set of armor(a couple of hours harv time for a 30's lvl forager). This is quite a bit of work for something that will only last you a day or two. Maybe if the quality of mob drops were brought more online with harvested mats it would make things a little more interesting and not so much of a grind to equip yourself. Just a thought.

This game was designed to be different than 'dropped loot oriented' games. I'd rather not have to run into scheduling a time to kill something because there is a waiting list. The dropped mats can either be sold to a vendor, or used in crafting (yes, lower stats, but in armor the difference isn't as noticable as weapons), but also for practice in crafting. Crafters aren't exactly thrilled about having to try and use q10-20 mats to level they're skill up. It's exceedingly slow as you raise in level that way. Whereas using q40-50 mats makes things go so much quicker. And yes not all mobs drop every peice needed for things. But the things you can get off from them does mean you need to harvest a whole lot less just to raise your craft skill.
And there are special 'named' mobs that do drop much better quality mats (Death Yubo, Death Clopper, Messakan from tryker lands). So they exist as well.
This game is designed as a living world. Or haven't you noticed the lack of metal used in the crafting or any of the environments? Things break down and decay, so a horde of 'phat lewt' here is just gonna turn into a composte heap. I'll let you have first pick npnp.

if this is to be a "crafter's game" then they better have a decent way of distributing the goods. i'd hate so see another ffxi auction house (8 item limit) or lineage 2 loiterers sitting to sell (major lag).

The point I was trying to make here is this in swg they tried a not loot system and it failed and they reworked it some.
In horizions they tryed a no loot system and they are shutting down servers now.
In Nothing is like the thrill of and I quote a eq2 dev " we know you like to kill things and loot them" ehh
Some people like to do nothing but click and make things and thats fine and dandy,
!!! but some like to kill and loot !!! maby make armour craft only and some weapons and jewerly drop only or somthing so we can all enjoy the game more.
or make all crafted item better then looted ones but looted items be med qu so we dont have to craft if we dont want to etc

There should be no dropped items, I aggree here. There is simply no need for dropped equipment. Most harvesters are very willing to craft items for free if provided with the mats - so, where is the problem?
The quartered mats are...there definatly should be a reward for killing a mob.
Which currently doesn't exists. I am approaching lvl 150 prime root harvesting now and make all my items out of supreme mats since the last 75 lvls.
On the other hand I am lvl 60 in offensive magic. I can make staffs which allow me to cast lvl 80 spells. So, why I am not lvling my magic more? Because there is no reason to. Mat drops from mobs are laughable (and the named mob drops are way too limited in both varity and quantity to be of any real use to balance this). Lvling for it's own sake is not enough.
Hunting and harvesting are in sore need to be balanced towards each other. One is currently fairly overpowered, one is basically useless.

Like I had said before, this is not how the game was designed, there are other mmo genre's out there that are designed to appeal to that type of gamer. This is designed to a different set of people. They can't make everyone happy, so lets not try and turn the game into something that it was not supposed to be. Don't want another version of 'class balancing' that was the fubar of eq.

I was just trying to slip in a little joke about how expensive ammo is to craft. Guess I have to try harder next time

Some of you are misinformed.
The are some named mobs that drop Supreme items and you can use them to make awesome stuff. There is one named in a cave in Imperial Dunes! I wont tell you his whereabouts
Im sure other things will be added later, or maybe already have been in the game but we just have not got that far yet....

And now imagine every hunter waiting for this boss. Welcome to evercamp. Boss mats are a nice addition, but mean nothing in the big picture.
