Be careful for what you wish, Homins...

The Rangers are becoming increasingly worried about increased Kitin activity in the wake of your slaying of the abnormally regenerating Kizarak at Desert Stock and retrieving the larvae for investigation.

I am sure they will in touch with more information soon.

just a random thought then and not any big idea for an invasion. I've enjoyed a lot more ones where there have been multiple objectives and/or things going on the same time.

The maurader (sp) one was a good example, we had a good build up to it, with lots of them appearing throughout atys. everyone was running around before the event proper; working out where they were, trying to see their routes and checking out outposts. Then when it kicked off we had fights going on in different lands, and in each land in several area's of conflict.

This really caused everyone to work together and put a little thought into what they were doing. Region chat was buzzing with homins rallying each other, setting up places to fight, etc. much more fun than everyone wait at point a, walk to point b, kill boss, go home :)

I know this wasn't directed at me but here's an idea I've been thinking about for quite some time: When kitins invade they gradually take over the enitre area, killing all that stands in their way. Mob density drops steadily over time, except for the aggro kitins, until no mobs other than kitins are present in the area. Now the no aggro kitin move in and start "harvesting" the resources in the area while the aggro kitins prepare to invade the next area.

Each invasion will consist of a set number of kitin and each invasion will have several attack waves. If an invasion is not stopped in time the kitin move to the next area where once again there is a set number of kitin.

It will be up to the homins to stop the invasion within a certain amount of time ( say a week) to prevent the kitin harvesters to move in and stop the next invasion.

To stop the invasion the number of kitins that make up an invasion has to be killed before the timer runs out. If successful the number of kitins in the area will drop while the normal mobs gradually respawn. When the spawn counter of the invasion hit 0 the invasion is stopped and the area slowly returns to normal.

Should the homins fail to retake the area, that area is then lost to the kitin and they will move to the next area while kipee and kiban harvest the resources in the area that is now under their control leaving nothing for the homin...

(Needless to say that kitin will destroy any outposts that are in the area they invade :p )

This should give invasions a more realistic feel and at the same time motivate people to stop the invasion.

This could be combined with NPC camps that are equipped by players to create a "frontline" so that the area can be taken bit by bit providing some short time goals and adding a useful role for crafters/diggers.

If NPC camps are impemented I would suggest make the equipping less of a clickfest and making it so that one set of LA+Amp creates a caster and a set of HA+sword makes for one melee. (come to think of it this system of equipping NPC guards could also be used for outposts...)

Needless to say? Yikes. You don't have an OP, do you? Not all outposts in along an obvious path, so I guess if you chose well, you're safe from this idea. Otherwise, too bad?

Can we at least use our NPC guards to defend the OP?

Just to avoid the inevitable cries of unfair, I'd rather see the OP's production go quiet until the invasion was over. I see who destroying my drill is "realistic", but since I don't gain any benefit by having an OP that's more along a travelled path than someone that has theirs tucked away somewhere, this doesn't seem well balanced.

No, I don't have an OP. Evo, my guild, however does have an one. Been there once when we took it don't feel the need to go there again. I think it's supposed to give us some special benefits but I haven't noticed any of that. As far as I'm concerned OP's are the biggest dissapointment yet...

No exp crytals from it then?
I'm sure there are....
THe kitin destroying the buildings on the op requiring them to be rebuilt may be realistic.. but It may well seem unfair to the poor guild that happens to be in the Path of the marauding Crabs....

It kinda sounds like what your saying is that since you don't like the new outposts, it's OK to just let the kitins destroy a few without any pause to ponder the game balance issues. I hope that isn't the case, cause even though you don't like them, some of us do.

As I said, I agree that there's a realism to your idea, but there's a game balance issue, too. Unless they're going to create an event where the kitins approach each outpost equally in their invasion, then it's just not balanced.

Hmm, the way I see it, why not have the kitin invasion attack some outposts and not others? So far who has an outpost and who doesn't is pretty-much all down to luck anyway... aside from the few that have been taken over most people have outposts because they were in the right place at the right time when outposts went live :P
