OMG, I could not agree more.lexi44 wrote:Gonna throw my 2 Newbie Dappers in here too....
One thing I found out *very* early on (I'm a complete newb here, only been playing about 7-10 days), is that Ryzom is unlike any other MMORPG that I've played...and I've played a *lot*.
Ryzom is not a game where you go from mission to mission and be *led* through leveling by NPC's. It's a game where you actually have to be active and think for yourself. I don't mean that in a bad way, I just mean that there are a lot of things to do - but *you* have to discover them. Yes, like *any* MMORPG, you are gonna have to get through the beginning grind to get levels, so that you can fight more effectively. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.
But I don't really see my beginnings as a "grind for xp"....instead, I look at it as a "grind for knowledge". I use this time, solo, to learn as much as possible from my mistakes and my successes....when I can't get my mind around something, I ask in guild and drive them crazy with all my newblet questions.
The missions in this game are really not meant to be used for getting xp better, or for learning how to play. From what I've seen, they are mostly about working on your Fame/Faction....something *you* are going to have to decide on, based upon the Lore and where you want your char to end up in the grander scheme of life on Atys.
I guess that's what I love so much about Ryzom. It's the first game I've played that doesn't "make" you choose a certain way to play. Everything....I do mean....everything is up to you. You decide what skills to progress; you decide what faction to join; you decide your fame....and ultimately *you* decide what to do with yourself for the maximum pleasure.
I think your statement should be quoted and stickied at the top of this forum and titled "What should I expect from Ryzom"
What an enlightened post!
