You can add my name to the list too.

Since the patch that brought in level requirments on jewels and light armours (and dropped the constitution requirment on shields) I have sold zero shields so far. Luckily my main branch is heavy armourcraft for if I did not have that my craftskills would be really redundant till I would be able to craft ql250 shields. The sheer aspect of having to grind all the way to that level before being 'noted' in the market niche these days is unaceptable as it would flat out cripple a craft branch, and thus it makes me think the change wasn' t intentional.

However there is something else to consider that makes these shields not 'right' imo. We all know 1-handed fight is a bit neglected compared to 2-handed fight style. Even more so, various 1-handed fighters prefer to take up a dagger in their secondary hand instead of the shield/buckler. Now during the temple-building event and the skirmishes that raged around the Old Lands, most of these skirmishes consisted of mage-battles. The very, very few that actually practiced melee fight over there, were predominantly 2-handed melee fighters.
It makes you wonder why the only reward for players who are predominantly melee fighters (there is none for Ranged fighters; poor Crythos) is rather useless to their main skill. Adding the fact you can' t move it to another own container, to store it should you ever decide to grind on 1-handed fight, leaves you even more guessing.

sehracii wrote:Also, you have to wonder why they offered shields of less than Q250, honestly.
They might have put it out so that people with their buy q filters set below 150 would buy before being warned that they didn't have the full menu available. I'm keeping mine as a collector's item! :)

seriously, i don't see much of a problem, in the short term this might be bad, but in the long term it can be quite helpful. how?
1. the amounts of shields available is limited and they will break, no matter how you turn it.
2. people who actually do use them will probably require more shields, after these ones are used up.
3. not everyone amassed a gazillion honour points.

these three points lead me to believe that this reward can actually benefit shield crafters in the long run, due to increased interest. (please also think about why nevrax chose to offer one of the least used melee equipment as reward. ;) )

Well, technically they're still limited in that people have a finite amount of honor points to spend. Now if they make events and item costs where it's always easy to have a big surplus of honor points, then items become effectively unlimited.

I personally think it's ok to have event items that are better than homin crafted items. Otherwise, I think the reward is kind of a waste. I think the mistake will be in pricing the items in such a way as to make them too easy to get and keep getting indefinitely. But that's all part of the balance (between rate of honor point accrual and item costs) that, hopefully, they're observing and working on.

Yup, this means shieldcrafters will have to work out their secret recipes to try to beat this Nervax's ones ;) NPC Bosses armors were beaten so why not shields?

+34 Parry mod beats max craftable of 30, no way around it.

The combined stamina and HP bonus is of courseway beyond what a crafter can possibly make.

The very high Max vs. and PF values are just icing on the cake, though they're not even as important as the former two values. Shields aren't guaranteed to absorb damage from every hit.

let's hope the kami/kara reward givers will be around 'forever', but the items available will change.

If the items are available all the time, 'forever' then u just said to every shield crafter 'hahaha you just wasted the last XX months of your life', might be worth thinking about this..

and to pull in another thread, the only way for this to work that i can see is you keep the items as impossible to transfer to storage. As soon as you allow that then everyone will hoard them and there will be no going back from screwing all the crafters permenently.

It would have even been better to have 5 different shield one with really good parry, one with really good PF, 1 each of all of the types of damage.

Maybe even ones with things that can't normally be crafted. I like the uber boosts on items as long as they make sense. Maybe a shield that had some inherint ability to "reflect damage" or reflect magic spells as in a 'madness' effect.

Super in all categories is troublesome.
and as Sehracii put it so elegantly: wrote:Supreme Shield of Awesomeness + NO use requirements + 1Hour or less involvements in E2 = Bad

How is gear elite or Uber when everyone who participated can have a Q250 one and be able to use it?

I don't need a key for that old lock, an old hairpin works just fine! :D Now if he wasn't so mean, he'd upgrade it to a more modern Frechini type IX cylinder lock or something, then I'd have to use a more direct approach!
