given the state of PvP in ryzom.. they are actually hideously ugly, and I want nothing to do with them.

To be effective in combat, you need to be over level 200. what does that leave the newcomers, once the community is fractured and every second person becomes your enemy?

I used to sell my ammo degrades so there was some half decent ammo about should anyone want to just try ranged and not be stuck with the NPC spitballs
but i dont any more just incase some of it gets thrown back at me. Not that many bother with ranged anyway (see other threads).

This is an unfortunate side issue for FvF conflict but it is logical in the current situation, however this crafting issue puts another little nail in the coffin of the communty we had.

Yep me as well, (not worried about it getting used on me) but on friends and guildies. My ammo is always crafted with Max dmg. My weapons for the best range. I still sneak a few choice weapons and ammo to friends though. :)

it's a logical reaction. Let's see what we will be seeing more and more (don't take my word for it, we shall see, I hope I am wrong). Imagine a John Doe player:

* Refusal to team with other faction players (why would I help him level so he can kill me sooner?)

* Refusal to help other faction low levels (why would I teach him the basics of the game so he can kill me sooner?)

* Refusal to craft for other faction players (why would I give my enemy the weapon to kill me?)

* Refusal to rez other faction players (why would I rez him? so he can get up and nuke me? )

* Refusal to share mats with other faction players (why would I do so?)

* Refusal to trek with other faction players (why would I help him get teleports, so he can port easy and kill me?)

* Refusal to talk to new players from opposite factions and enemy guilds (oh, this one is a <insert X guild name> it is known that <X> area bunch of gankers, so he's a ganker fer sure!!! - I won't be fooled into believing that this player just joined the game, joined a guild (internally all guilds are very cool players, you know) and doesn't have a clue on what's happening )

* Refusal to asnwer questions from opposite faction players (why would I help him with game basics, stanza optimization and craft formulas? so he can get, the 100/100/100/100 amp, find out the resist system and a +3 parry armor so he can kill me faster?)

* Dissappearance of small guilds in favor of more powerful ones (I have no chance against those, well let's join this guild, they are already 60 I can get some backup)

All of this, of course, in a strictly coherent way with the background and game lore, in agreement with game direction and only "in context", without having an impact at all on players behind the screen because, you know, it's only a game, and no personal feelings involved, and it will have no impact on the community.

I will miss:
- Drakfot tales
- Evolution Pirate talking contests
- Samsara pub nights
- ...

Players will not enjoy the trip. They will be powerlevelled by healing out of team, nuking out of team after half damage is done. They won't take the time to learn harvesting and crafting, creating a guild on their own. They will be spoon fed with gear (this was already happening, guess what now with war) and made it a "unit" to kill enemies.

<cynical>To those willing and threatening to leave the game... who cares? you were just the first generation, the ones that helped us debug the game. Your money is as good as any other player. Stop considering you the center of the game!! . You know, we have investors here, we are trying to make a profit, we need some income streams to go on. Who will remeber you in 6 months if the game goes on? no one. We payed you with a free month, what else do you want? you had fun, so stop complaining. It's 12 euros a month, it's peanuts, you spent that on the pub a friday.</cynical>

I remeber mshad words... "this time, it will be done well"

Nice post. You forgot the disolving of Guild Alliances.

I recently talked my girlfriend into opening an account (so we could spend 'quality time' together :D ), as I told her about the upcoming changes, her comments were..
"so the only way for a new player to get anywhere is to become the 'b*tch' of a powerful guild.. no more friendly mentoring.." and a couple of other things along that line.

If the game is unwelcoming to new players, and poisoned for established players.. who is left ?

Good question. Wonder if Nevrax is bothering to ask themselves that.

Been doing the above for about 3 months now :p but then we formed a guild specifically to act as the Hand of Ma-Duk ;) However the fanatical guilds are smaller in number than the more moderate so i think these things will still happen in the majority of cases.

When people settle down and start resuming normal activities more i think the markets might get very interesting; having a real, working economy will be a nice improvement imo.
