The latter.

You can get a count in your current region by doing a "/who" and counting the names. That's all I know of.

Also, fixed your typo.
Um... are you quoting another thread? That's pretty pitiful.

It would be cool if there was an objective for the fighters other than kill the harvesters... I guess once they nerf the kitins and turn off the KT you'll be able to attempt to hold the hill while your harvesters get their fill while you have raiding parties making sure your opponents don't get theirs (ie kill the harvesters).
But that hasn't been the strategy thus far. You kill me, I get rezzed and then I return the favor. If I don't get rezzed in time I spawn and head back into the fight. The battlefield doesn't change, no strategy and largely no reason. Other than just plain fun. They wrap some content around it but really, you guys aren't out there for the story.
I'm not sure how to fix it... Maybe BF style of map control. You have to hold a location in order to harvest from it. If you don't get rezzed you can't come back in until a Death Penalty is cleared. I don't know... something that would give you a feeling that the battle went somewhere besides back and forth without end (well until the other teams quit). But without giving one side a significant advantage over the other (that's the tricky part).

Why would the fighter/nukers kill the kitins?
You see, it's not good enough that a single nuke is usually good enough to drop a digger, making it completely safe for the coward that attacked. The Kitin's are the gankers best ally. Why bother with a measly few honor points, when you can not only "PWND JOO N00B" but give them 462500 DP too?
CoC and basic decency not withstanding, it is apparently completely acceptable to drag agro on the enemy. Just one more example that some a**hole is making the decisions.
And you wonder why so many are leaving?

Bax, to be entirely honest, the only diggers I repeatedly saw being killed were those on the hill surrounded by a ton of fighters. As for pulling aggro, it's probably not intentional the majority of the time. I have seen just as many people pulling aggro into their own faction as I have seen the other way around. To tell the truth, the Kitin are VERY unpredictable and have been popping all over the place, to include directly behind you as you run through an area. There seems to be no real definable behavior other than being completely random. Certain areas have continuous spawns, the hill and ramps most notably, but that really only applies to Kincher. Kipesta are almost entirely spradic and seem to aggro from anywhere up to what I estimate to be about 50-75m. The Kitin also follow a different AI patter from usual, as attacking a single Kipesta or Kincher brings the entire spawn.
I will admit that I have seen a few waves of Kami fighters speed running over the hill and into a group of Karavan with a large number of Kinchers on them. I can't say whether this is intentional or not, though it is annoying. You can be sure, though, that this isn't a faction thing and that it is going both ways. While I am sure you would enjoy pointing the finger at "gankers", I believe it is more a matter of how the region was designed than any sort of malicious intent.

One, it is done by both factions, neither is blameless.
Two, it is occaisonally accidental, but it is also done on purpose, as admitted in region chat, and by the person who did the dragging in "around" once they get rezzed. It is *not* always accidental.
Three, that is one of the most dishonorable things one player can do to another, not only kill them, but stick them with a Death Penalty on purpose with every intention of taking away limited game-time, that their victim has paid for.
Four, and most importantly, this abuse of the system, this underhanded behavior is completely supported by the guides, apparently the CoC does not apply in FvF zones. Kinda makes you wonder.
