Not when I was there. The Kami were digging, the Karavan came mob handed. I didn't see ANY karavan diggers in the central area.

Same here. I went, healed a few mages/fighters as they fought Kitin. Tried to heal a friend who was Karavan and killed by Kitin. Couldn't. Got ganked by a Karavan when I was trying to heal a Kami friend. Spawned. Didn't go back. Wont go back.

That's because most Karavan followers can't dig desert. You need to pull at least Q100 for anything int he central area.

Check the Valors of Steel and see which faction is dominating the harvesting points though.

And then see which faction is doing the most killing on there too.....

I was... don't be fools, folks.. both parties are behaving exactly the same way.. there are players killing harvesters on both sides. Stating that one side is behaving while the other isn't is plain wrong.

Agreed. And if, as sehracci says, the Karavan followers cant dig in the central area, they'd be staying away from the majority of the Kami gankers anyway. And digging without hassle. All I saw in the central area was a mass of PvP. That's why I left.

I went to support the Kami, not to kill homin. I played defensively - nuked Kitin, healed Homin. Then I got killed while trying to heal a guildie.

I tried to rez a fellow homin but couldn't because he was my 'enemy'. Did I choose that? No I didn't. At no point was I asked if I wanted to play PvP. Or given the option to be neutral and heal BOTH sides when killed by Kitin as the player I tried to heal was.

So I will try to craft as I am FORCED to take that as my only way to contribute. I'd like to dig but I don't want to give the gankers anymore fun.

Can't craft because there's no materials.
Our guild leader harvested most of the time we were there. He helped us find the level 50-100 mat sites so we could join him and dig. Our little forager's group was attacked at our dig site twice, by a single opposing faction player; we dropped our picks, equipped amps, rezzed our dead and killed the attacker the second time she ran up to us. And kept digging...

I too was disappointed with this start to Episode 2.

I went to see the new "old lands" and was surprised to find only a small island of desert landscape with few interesting features. I assume we will get more lands later, but I fear they will also be small pockets of not-so-new scenery. I had hoped for new stuff, cool sky, textures, new vegetation, maybe even a new mob. Nope. Basically just the same old stuff, reworked. The only things really worth looking at were the camps.

I didn't take the temple-building missions (being neutral :p ) but did try to dig. I could dig below the hilltop "arena" but couldn't dig up top (desert forage only 53). The new mission mats weren't all that "new" either, basically just new names to the same stuff.

I did manage to get myself killed a few times, in various ways. ;)
The Kinchers and Kipesta were pretty nasty but gave me good xp.
The people fighting seemed to be enjoying it; just not my cup of tea.

All in all, it left me wondering why it took so long to bring out Episode 2.

So I went and I saw, but now I'll go back to my regular stuff.
The regions are even quieter now, if you can imagine. :p

I spent 95% of my time digging so I know there where mats to craft with. ;)
Have others guard you from the kitin/'honour' seekers if you wish to dig.

Kudos to Snake and Sehraci! who were the top diggers when I last checked the monument.

You didn't wait around long enough. There must have been two full hours where the Kamists dominated and kept the Karavanists bottled up in the camp. For awhile the Kamists were bottled up also. Most of the time the battle see-saweed back and forth every 15 minutes or so. I imagine homins at the north or south sides could be undisturbed by all the fighting in the center. If you want to dig undisturbed, perhaps you could coordinate your digging schedule with Brithlem. :)
