does this mean i can lurk outside Pyrs east gate and gank lowbies by the stables there ? at least until enough high level players get together to hunt me down (taking them away from whatever it was they had intended to do -this is what they call a 'spoiling attack' or diversion, to the common folk :p )

the actual idea is repugnant to me, but I know there are players who find it the height of entertainment.. and i would prefer they not be pandered to.

dazoo wrote:While that may be true, does that mean the "Giant insects" have already been defeated? And if they have, it was quite the easy victory. My sincerest apoligies, but there are still many a kitin out there that needs to be dead.
Sure there are enough kitin left. It was nevers said that we should erase all kitin, it was more about kitin atacking us (kitin invasions). If you like to hunt kitins you can do so in future. Episode 2 is an addition, not a replacement of ingame elements.

Nobody said that ther will be never a kitin invasion again. A kitininvasion *and* FvF would be another dimension for me and very welcomed. Would homins forget their conflict and fight together the kitin or must the invaded faction take care on its own ? So many possibilities there... :)

You are no idiot, just concerned. Yes, FvF will be possible everywhere. But we will get a PvP-tag in our gamesettings. This enables you to take part or not. You decide if you set PvP-tag or not. Somehow as it si now with duelling. You accept or not.

Only Nevrax knows how long the story continues... I think as long as they have enough money everything is fine. Maybe the Goo comes now later ? A story can be told in different ways. And my post was just how i would have played it out, but i am not Devs and no GM :)
dazoo wrote: And still the question remains... is this all a ill-fated attempt to make the game that we all love more "mainstream?" aka a cookie cutter copy of the majority of mmorpg's out there?

Goofy
Nobody knows whats going on in others brains ;) but i am watching the development now for nearly a year and i say no. This is not a ill-fated attempt. It is possible a little compromise due to some money problems early this year. But all together it seems to me that the story is continuing like intended.

I've been here two months, all these angry threads confuses me. I guess I'm just naive.

Saga of Ryzom supports more playing styles than any game I've seen before. We have swordfighters, gunmen, healers, mages playing side to side with harvesters and crafters. We have poets, peace-loving mercenaries, religious fanatics, lovers and psychopathic killers. And we can develop this as we play, no need to re-roll.

While the level design here is great I could use a bit more drama in the game. I think the war will add to the game, not kill it. Nevrax hasn't forced the players into one side of playing yet and I doubt they design PvP in such way, they build for freedom.

In WoW (Argent Dawn) I was usually flagged PVP without being an attacker, I liked the extra risk. When they introduced Honor Points, I had to unflag for 1-2 months, after that it was back to normal. Now, consider the maturity of the player base in Ryzom vs the players in WoW. I doubt there's a real problem, I doubt hordes of gankers suddenly knock on the doors and kill us all. I'm sure there will be more "unfair deaths" though, but hey - we're in war.

Yes, the Saga seems to move on. A goddess is coming to town, but she's not welcomed by all factions. I, for one, is intrigued with getting more hints to the main plot. We're having GM's moving the storyline further (how great isn't that?) and when R2 comes we can all be GM's.

Leafblowers don't kill homins, homins kill homins.

Some carpet-smoking post of david cohen corval explained :
- more lands to discover on atys, e.g reaching canopee...
- even other planets involved (the "saga" and "#1 : atys" are hints)
- more mounts, even vehicle, including vertical displacements
- homins in space (erm... lol... like freelancers/eve ???)
- 5th race (personally i think it's a playermade myth)

showing how long it takes to make outposts, i think the complete idea will requiere 8 years :p

but we all know nevrax immediate work have to be :
- outpost (due to end november-05)
- R2
- outpost improvement (since they said the first release will not include all they wanted to)
- 1H melee fight reworking
- range fight reworking
- noobs "tutorial" island reworking
- encyclopaedia wrongness reworking
- making others useless stuff around useful.

i'm sure that will take all 2006 year long only to do that, heh !

the war was always coming it seems.

War? What war are you talking about? Jena is coming to take all those faithful to her away to a better place. The rest of you will stay behind and you'll have festering purple sores growing all over you bodies and pink snot oozing from your eyes and ears and nose. Slowly but surely you will go insane and end up running around hysterically screaming "Slash Pizza, Slash Pizza, Slash Pizza, WoooooooooooW"

Here's a question... (maybe Is should make a poll :) )...

If entering a PvP area means I automatically consent to PvP, doesn't it therefore - logically - follow that by logging into an mmoRPG I am automatically consenting to and promsing to roleplay rather than just randomly gank?

*evil chuckle*

Not everyone has the same idae as to what "RP" actualy means , some think its talking in Ye Olde English some that you act like you believe someone with your chars main skill would act others that its following/assuming the role laid out for you by the game creators (like the French players seem to be doing)

"Content" my mean different things to different ppl but so does RP :p

Is RP behavior that supports immersion or at least doesnt destroy others immersion ?
Behavior that stays in role, so other RPlayers can learn to know who you char is ?
Neverever talking in region and surrounding chat about mechanics ?
Play the game by staying in role. (Sorry, cant train my swordterchniques with you guys, i dont kill herbievores. My Kamimaster wants me to do so) ?

Grimjim if you had a wish free, what would you wish for Arispotle to make RP better ?
