Smoke & Mirrors ?
Re: Smoke & Mirrors ?
While I think most of us who have been playing since release may be disappointed that many things that were promised or originally promoted still have not made it into the game and other things that didn't seem to be broken, now are, or made more difficult for the sake of being more difficult. However, I, like Baxter, still have hope. I realize that Nevrax is a small company and the community is serves is also small by comparison, therefore their resources to change, improve and adapt the game are limited, so things take time. Outposts are coming, Ryzom Ring is coming, there is good stuff in the near future so I'm planning on sticking it out to see how it all turns out, but the frustration is certainly understandable. I don't blame people for leaving, I know we all get that "the grass is greener on the other side" feeling sometimes, I just hope that those of you who choose to leave will come back to visit in a few months and give Ryzom another chance.

Re: Smoke & Mirrors ?
Well the problem is lawrence people are asking to be informed of changes to a plan which isn't in the game.lawrence wrote: While we do keep you guys informed of any change, through news articles and announcements, of course it can happen that outdated information stays online for a while, or doesn't get edited out until the next major update or overhaul of those documents.
There is lots of old literature from the game around release about Outposts. Then there have been a series of new articles. If you simply removed the word outpost from these articles you'd have no idea they were talking about the same thing (and the question really is... are they?) because they're so different.
Old outposts talked about guild missions, guild halls, tribes, kitin invasions, etc.
New and upcoming outposts now talks exclusively about all the supposed great pvp. PvP itself being a contentious point among the community which is prepared to split this already small community.
Where is this new game manual? What I've seen on the ryzom website has nothing to offer about plans to introduce all the material already gone over that appealed to many to join Ryzom from the box and original advertising.
To keep it simple in questions I'll make a list that can be used or ignored:
Are guild missions for outposts going to be enabled? Will we have the option of gaining fame with a tribe or fighting for an outpost? (Page 37 of the U.S. manual. Control by Diplomacy and Control by Force)
Will foragers and crafters still have a critical role in taking control of an outpost through diplomacy? (crafting and foraging missions) Are crafters and foragers being given parts to play in the conflict at all outside of support skills for combatants?
When will we see the content for the Guild Halls?
What about tribes and Kitins raiding the outposts?
Will there be non-pvp outposts? or does your guild wanting to control an outpost for raids and other content mean that you forcibly consent to PvP?
Are there plans to fix up the current inoperable rites and add more?
Are there plans to make the Goo attacks, mechanics, and missions be made operable?
I've seen these questions asked over and over again in numerous threads and I myself as well would really like to know the answers. The answers to these questions are a large part of why many people are still subscribed to Ryzom to be the first to do these things when they are implemented.

Never will we see the likes of the Nexus raid and other great raids we has before january again IMO. Things now seem to of just faded into a endless cycle. You must be forgetting we have heared all the promises before and many stay just for the pure hope that something will come out of them while overs give up hope and leave. (and some stay just for the £8 a month fee to use a chat program where there.com would surely be just as good).
Basic you are !00% correct...and is why my account ends on the 7th...10 months of broken promises.........................
Re: Smoke & Mirrors ?
Why not post these in the Q&A? You're more likely to get an answer and they're things that a lot of us would like to find out the answers to. The only problem now, which this thread sadly illustrates, is that Nevrax probably won't want to answer 'yes' for fear of people complaining in 6 months when it's not implemented. And they won't answer 'no' as that's bad PRsvayvti wrote:Some interesting questions.

Because the discussion was in this thread. If it makes a difference I could post it there, but I would think that would be spamming.
Saying yes isn't giving a timetable, which unfortunately people on the forums seem to take it as. For Nevrax to say no would be bad for PR... but it would be a lot worse in 6 months when people have been subscribing for it and are thoroughly frustrated to learn after they've been strung along.
Personally I think already that Nevrax's biggest problem with getting new customers is that they've burnt too many customers already. The most important advertising is player advertising, and unfortunately there are a lot of upset ex-players of Ryzom out there. Get some of the old players to come back as there more likely to stay, but more importantly impress them at least enough that even if they don't they won't keep talking trash about the game to their friends because their last memories of the game are full of bugs and frustration.

Wow, I disagree with so many of your recent gripes, but you have some good points here... I still dont agree with many of the whines I have seen you post lately, I do support the way you worded this as it is accurate and in response to one of the fanboys who obviously think it is okay to pay for things promised but not yet (after a year) delivered.svayvti wrote:Personally I think already that Nevrax's biggest problem with getting new customers is that they've burnt too many customers already. Old players, whether they left already and chime in occasionally... as well as those of us silly enough to stay after having been burned so many times all want the same thing. We want the game (Yes with PvP and Outposts) that we tested and shows up on the gamebox and in the old DCC interviews... that game rocked.
What we have now is a game that Lawrence explains is realistic to the technology etc etc of the Dev Team etc etc. Well, I guess we all have to decide if the cost of this game (compared to the top 5 similar games in popularity and/or cost) is worth the things that are STILL lacking.
If I had a vision that was grandiose... but unattainable with current technology... would/should it cost the same as the others in it's class ?
Nothing beats word of mouth on a game that is not in stores...
Things that make you go hmmm.....

Spring clean? SPRING?lawrence wrote:On a side note, now that the spring clean has been completed, which had delayed some of the features mentioned in this thread, the developers have begun working on major content patches again and we're starting to see actual results here. By just taking a look at the "In Development" and "Now in Test" sections over at the official site, it is obvious that we'll be seeing many new, exciting features in the near future, many of which you guys have been waiting for a long time.
Do I miss something here, guys, my bad english is triking me again, or me and Lawrence are living on different times. Is AUTUMN now, in case you did not noticed. You completed the spring clean in summer and made the final polish in autumn. You started bragging about Outposts about 2 yrs ago each time the time frame was "in autumn" or even better "soon" (TM). All the bugs are about to be corrected "soon". The rites, the melee combat, the broken tutorials, aberant mob behaviour, the broken skills, the spells, the broken radar, the group bug, the infamous "fear" bug, the emotes, the canion... all are about to be fixed "soon" (TM).
Now I understand why. The player time is faster than Nevrax time. "Soon" for us means today, tomorow or next week, for Nevrax means next year.
God, I'm such an idiot...

Re: Smoke & Mirrors ?
In my human heart I do not believe DCC wanted to disappoint us and I still find myself wondering if he too is startled at how his dream is evolving. He is so very quiet these last months. It was a great and noble quest, a world... a real world, where homins made a difference, where material sources rebelled against being overreaped not just by exploding or emitting noxious fumes, but by moving (I swear I read that somewhere long ago, if not.. I apologize for the error); where plants as well as beasts had agendas of their own. A real world, with real world issues; yes war, but war with the world's demands and whims equally as much as with eachother. I realize one hand can only do so many things at the same time and I am fighting myself over the decision to stay or give up. Actually my human wants to move on, she has read about a place from the clouds she thinks might blend more with her ideas of a good entertainment after her hours on the job; it is my Azukia that is so hurt in all this. Azukia had a life's vision, she is deep in mourning knowing now the ideals of her youth will never come to pass.
I am Azukia. I had a sister, her name was Zuki. Zuki was a proud warrior with only the most basic of healing abilities. Zuki trained to fight the kitin hoards, she walked tall and proud in her short life. She got word from her twin (who lived in ATS) that there were huge changes coming to Atys, changes she could not survive. Two weeks before the explosion that was called Patch 1 my dear sister Zuki dehominized (?). I am ressurected from her essence. She passed me her knowledge and the advice that I must train ALL my skills to survive in the new Atys. I was somewhat pleased to learn this as my sister was truly an opposite of me, a test, if you will, of one's ability to create a life completely different than the leanings I would commonly embrace... a life of peace, with war only in defense of my family and my home.
I lived alone a long time, my dear friend Yuritau (now a disappeared one, though time to time I swear i see her run through our beloved Matia, her laughter ruffling the leaves... *let's the tear drop freely*) assisting me in my transition to the Mainlands, learning what I could as I moved through my days. I made what I needed from the bounty I reaped from Atys ground. Finally I found my family and my learning of the ways of my world went much deeper with my new brothers and sisters guidance. Happy was my heart the day I could finally give back, the day I could help my siblings attain their goals. To my distress many of my family are disappeared, I do not blame the kitin as they have been inactive for so long I can only just barely remember when their roar filled me with tremblors. I blame the atmosphere..
Atys is suffocating. The air once sweet and fresh is growing stale, the mornings do not dawn as full of hope and promise as they once did. Our hunting is not for survival of ourselves and our world but only for skin and bone. We have turned into drones in homin's skins and it feels stifling. Somewhere it was decided conflict amongst ourselves was more desirable than conflict on behalf of ourselves; that we could not build our civilization, but we are free to destroy it. It is more and more a struggle to carry my heart.
If we will have war between the civilizations, if we will have war between our clans, so be it. I ask only... what are we fighting for?
