In all fairness, with talk of IA only being useful against things resistant to pierce, a fact I don't think has been mentioned yet is that slash+bleed can not do as much damage to things resistant to slash as pierce can do to things resistant to pierce.

And also -- bleed -- compare it to another weapon type and you've got a curve. Bleed is almost useless in short fights, actually doing less than inc dam + acc atk. In long fights, damage from a slash+bleed attack will snowball.

Bleed is effective against everything, and creatures with resistance to slashing can be avoided ( to an extent).
Yeah, that's pretty much the whole story. Slashing weapons with bleed are easier to train because in training you can pick what you fight, but if you're ever forced to go up against kipuckas you're useless. Ignore armor is pretty much useless in training, but once you're highlevel in piercing weapons it allows you to do decent damage against any creature out there.

So that was my problem with those Kipuckas! I wish I had known that before ...

Ehm... can't tell if this is sarcastic or not. Some players may consider it overly obvious that kipuckas have 80% protection from all physical attacks, and a lot of players probably don't know at all.

Nope, it wasn't sarcastic. I have found kipuckas to be difficult to fight with my sword but I hadn't thought about it much. How do you know they have 80% protection? Is that info collected somewhere?

Back on the thread topic, I actually wish that I had leveled pike ahead of sword despite the decreased damage for just these situations.

You know the damage of the weapon.
You know what it does against an unarmored target (e.g. a player willing to test the sword).
Then you go to a mob, see what damage you deal a couple of times and you have the numbers.

Is good to see in what weapon you are investing your hard earned points.

Others done that in the past, you can do it too. You don't have to take those numbers as granted, you know...

Yep. yep. I admit it. I'm lazy and inattentive. Prolly too much stinga rum again, or the next day hangovers.

Yepyep, upon hitting the kipucka you will get a message saying something like "you hit the kipucka's left toe for 100(500) damage", so then you know it has 80% protection against the weapon you're using.

And for lazy people like you, I've gathered all the info [thread=17276]here[/thread]. ;)
