Yeah it definately is quiet compared to EQ (Nexus) or one of the starter systems in Eve. But you can visably see more and more new people log in for the first time (i'm still in the newbie island).

However, there is one huge difference between Ryzom and Horizons. And that's hype. Horizons had a huge following, with many expecting great things from it. As it turned out, Horizons didn't deliver on their release promises, and personally i felt their servers couldn't handle the mass of players playing on release. Plus i felt their game engine was awful.

Also i'm not sure but i've only seen Ryzom in Game here in the UK. I've been to a few other game shops and there seems to be zero copies to be found there (but this could just be the town i'm living in).

your point is? my point is, when the server goes offline, the most people ever on these forums is 367, now even if you said half of the total pop of any one server posted here or even read these forums, 367 isnt very much.

But everything has already been said; just wondering (like michlieb) why you still play if it's such a pain... "cause it's free" ? They all say that...

Duster.
Because i want something to be better then it appears to be? Because i dont like spending 30 quid on a game for nothing? Because i like some aspects of the game, aspects many people dont even comprehend. Why shouldnt i play it? It is something which should be given to prisoners, if i had a pound for every person i met who wished they'd stayed in noob land i'd have gotten this game for free.

In this games you simply cannot be the best you can be among the best at last i look on them so .. having FUN and having friends ...

Coming from you this is actually a funny read. Heres some Zenchi quotes:
"I hope your packer dies" "My team is insulting me" "Help, i need a healer" "My teams has left me - some team"

Sorry? but you were saying?

all said and done, i might, might...possibly subscribe, but i am going to wait untill the end of the month before i do. I will get Eq2 and Wow, both a pre ordered. my search for the perfect game continues. ;)

I find that rather funny, the game is 2 weeks old, the content hasnt started yet, theres tons of stuff to be added in the next few weeks..and you say its a "couldve been" thats like saying the cake tastes bad before you've finished baking it :)

i also did beta for swg and horizons as i did for ryzoms, i use the experience in my judgement, your are right time will tell, i do certainly hope i am wrong. I wasnt with swg or horisons and i gave them both 6 months of my time after release.

I heard about the game about 2 weeks ago, got hooked immediately and bought it 3 days after the official release (guess until then I was on SERIOUS luck)

But as I havent been in the beta and followed no discussions until 2 wekks ago I can compare the game only to tother MMORPGS I bought and my impression is strongly that SoR

Has been released to early as it lacks LOTS of content that is allready included in the rulesbook (german and english). Aditionally we all are playing atm THE SAME RACE - just with different skins&textures. The only differences are serious imbalances which does not qulify for racial diversity in my opinion

Therefore I am not willing to pay for playing after the free month and wait instead until after patch2 including the resulting fine tuning has been done. If Nevrax lost me until then to WoW or EQ2 thats bad luck - I will treat these games the same.

If Nevrax thought that a premature release is economically the better solution they can enjoy my 50 bucks for the original game but thats it. Games are nothing special, they should be treated like any other product.

I have to agree, one week in and im getting bored silly. Ive tried to enjoy it but cant. Im in one of the largest guilds in the game with some good ppl but Im sick of wacking the ground with a stick continously or smacking a beast continously with a pike. Theres no content, the extremely extremely poor manual that came with the game has led me to spend points on things I realised after were pointless but how are you to know (unlees u were in FB it seems).

It would seem that the only ppl getting on with this game are ex beta testers because they have had months to learn where all the mats are and what are the best weapons/armour to use is.

Im sorry but unless the game changes radically it wont attract the masses and I question its lasting ability.

Ill play to the end of the month and then thats it, if I want to go do something monotonous and boring Ill go mine in EVE, not.

Why the hell are you gonna bother to play to the end of the month?

Compare it with a menue you ordered in a top class restaurant a friend recommended to you:

The soup was a great appetizer but the main course lacks in every respect. Since you have to pay for it anyway you are just eating up hoping that the dessert will at least help you to feel like you didnt throw your money completely out of the window.

borguk is just eating up.

Anyone who expects a MMORP to release with more than minimal content has no idea what software development is like. YOu have a specific amount of time and money and resources and you have to balance them as best you can. Microsoft releases products that have to be patched shortly after and they have heaps of money. A MMORPG is a development in progress at all times. On release it has as much as they can fit in, and either you like it or you dont. If you dont then dont play, dont waste my eyeballs posting why you dont, I dont care!

Yes the game has areas it could be improved. The rule book lacks detail, the descriptions of skills are vague and confusing, the player economy seems to be dragging a lot of players into crafting which is adversely affecting the hunters due to limited server pops at this time. There are features and content that are not in yet, and some that obviously need balancing or revision.

But despite that I am still enjoying the game. This weekend I got into 3 different groups and the exp in those groups was great. Grouping is a staggering advantage in this game. When I wasnt grouped I did harvesting and crafting - I made my own mace and armour, and my new mace is awesome (compared to my old one). It gave me a feeling of achievement to know I did that.

If you are a solo player this game will likely cause you some problems. If you find it difficult to put yourself 'out' there and find strangers to group with, then you have more problems. MMORPG is all about community, and that takes time to grow.

Finally, these games require effort, if you think you can sit on your butt and wait for the fun to roll in then very few MMORPGs are going to suit you. You get out what you put in.
