well, i assume you're referring to your second post on that thread... i did set up an exception on this udp port in the windows firewall, just as you wrote there, but that didn't have any effect at all; then i completely /disabled/ the windows firewall as i think it's mighty useless anyway and nothing changed.

on the linux front: i wasn't able to get ryzom running for some wicked reason (i know i did manage to do that around last christmas but i can't remember how i did that). it won't work with neither vanilla wine nor the latest cedega in cvs, but i got my dvb-s card running on linux (the image quality is a lot better than in windows O_o); since that was the only reason to upgrade to sp2, i guess i'll just revert back to sp1 and see if it works again...
it might be an odd conflict between sp2 and my bsd router *shrugs*.

unless... are there any "hidden" registry entries for network/listen timeouts?

at least i found out it's not my isp: the game is working flawlessly at this here computer at work and i got the same isp at home.

You didn't say that you tried using Direct3D mode for Ryzom.

If you have, try some of the following

You may have some corrupt files in the SAVE folder.
Rename the SAVE folder to SAVE.OLD and launch the game.

If things still don't work, restore your SAVE folder and try cleaning things up:
- remove *.string_cache' in the DATA folder
- remove everything in the UNPACK folder
- try launching again

And if things are still not working, I would suggest renaming the UNPACK folder to UNPACK.OLD and run ryzom_recover 5 times and then launch.

well.. i guess i got good and bad news: i was able to log on right after having uninstalled sp2 -- then i logged off and i'm having exactly the same issues as before :)

i tried all of the mentioned things, in order, along with disabling all "advanced graphics features" (or what seemed to be some) in the configuration tool and it still won't get any further... this time however i took a look at ryzom's log file.

the last bunch of errors are always of the type

2005/10/17 19:33:54 WRN 1372 client_ryzom_rd.exe path.cpp 483 : PATH: CPath::lookup(fusarc.tga): file not found
2005/10/17 19:33:54 INF 1372 client_ryzom_rd.exe common.cpp 550 : Exception will be launched: Path not found for fusarc.tga
2005/10/17 19:33:54 WRN 1372 client_ryzom_rd.exe texture_file.cpp 200 : Missing textureFile: fusarc.tga (Path not found for fusarc.tga)

(with varying texture files)

and after that there's an infinite number of

2005/10/17 19:33:54 INF 1372 client_ryzom_rd.exe network_connection.cpp 2238 : CNET[012ACCA0]: sent ACK_PROBE (0 probes)
2005/10/17 19:33:55 WRN 1372 client_ryzom_rd.exe network_connection.cpp 2298 : CNET[012ACCA0]: received normal in state Probe

lines like these (till i kill the client that is...)

now, even though i haven't looked at the nel sources so far, am i interpreting these log entries correctly if i state that there's no network problem? ryzom's connection seems to be alive...

if i scroll up a few hundred lines, there's lines of the type
2005/10/17 19:33:26 DBG 444 client_ryzom_rd.exe zone_manager.cpp 267 : CZoneLoadingTask::run(): File not found: 59_AD.zonel

and blocks of

2005/10/17 19:33:23 INF 1372 client_ryzom_rd.exe common.cpp 550 : Exception will be launched: Path not found for bat_zc_02.shape
2005/10/17 19:33:23 WRN 1372 client_ryzom_rd.exe shape_bank.cpp 497 : CShapeBank::load() : Path not found for bat_zc_02.shape
2005/10/17 19:33:23 WRN 1372 client_ryzom_rd.exe path.cpp 483 : PATH: CPath::lookup(bat_zc_03.shape): file not found

with varying .shape files

well, those are the most... dominant errors in the file, there's some others about duplicate weather sheets or something like that and some that seem like missing animation files... if i hadn't run a "data check" from the main menu after reading these errors, i'd say something's twocked with my data files. any more leads? playing at work only is kinda odd -- not that my boss would mind, but i suppose my guild will if i don't show up next sunday :D
