No offical figures have been released on what the populations and many have tried to work it out.


This subject was debated a long time ago when the pops were higher and people were concerned about the survival of the game. We are still here and more people are joining :)

Well, since neither of us have a way to figure that out, I have no idea :) I also don't play anymore, so can't hazard a guess. However, I would assume there are 500 or less playing on Arispotle, yes. For the other shards, you would need to ask someone in the relevant community.

That, I think, is very dependent on what you expect to get out of the game. If you're looking for large-scale events (especially faction-based) then yes, this does make a difference. If there are less people playing than the number required to make an event enjoyable, and your main interest is events, the population is important.

If you're looking to team with a low number of people for day-to-day happenings, sure, population is irrelevant.

i tried the german shard and it seemed more "dead" than this one...

give us full free pvp server and u get tons of players

It´s most interesting that the Same thread was opened by the same "Player" (with only 9 posts so far) in the German Community... Seems like someones attempt to rouse the old subjet again with a trial account.

I doubt the client is atm able to render 500 players in one view :p

I remember a info, that the settings for ploygon reduction are not up to date with modern hardware.

Indeed, but 1 event not neccessarily = 1 view :) 500 is probably a bit high, but the engine must be coded to handle something close to that - either that, or Nevrax always intended a small player base and small invader count (which I can't imagine is right :) )

The Torque games engine can handle 128 players on a server, with reasonable bandwidth etc. That's an FPS engine, which requires much more bandwidth and more timely packet delivery than an MMO engine does. If Ryzom couldn't handle 256 players or above (on dedicated comms equipment), I'd be a bit disappointed :)

Sure your playing the right game? SoR is not designed to be open PvP, the majority of players are at best ambivalent toward the limited PvP we have now.. But go stand near the kara tp in ef, sure someone will gank u if u ask nicely :)

theres a difference between random slaying and l33t speak,

for example, i want to own an area, i want to take taxes, everyone who does interfere in this area gets killed,

cheap excuse for rpking, but anyways in addition to RPks will always be Anti Pks...so...

and i can tell you...so the guess is less than 500 people playing, im surewith free pvp the game`ll get at least 10k free trial players and at least 1k players who`d stay (source :my guild)
