"BS Let me give you an example of a mission that would do exactly as I am speaking of:"

<snip>
If run as a guide event that would be worthwhile and interesting to be done. What you're suggesting though are MISSIONS and the whole thing becomes pointless and stupid if everyone and their pet Frahar is doing it. It loses impact and relevence which is why I don't like instanced missions.

What you argue removes the relevence of even DOING these things.

And things like that have been done by the guides, I hope they do more of them.

It doesn't become pointless and stupid. What it does is get people interested and involved in the story. It also provides the opportunity for everyone to be able to experience elements of the story. Not just the 1/2 dozen that can attend events.

Beleive it or not, having the story pushed forward and brought to the player only through events looses impact and revelence to the majority of the game population. Why? Because most people can't attend events and end up just reading about them.

But it makes the impact and importance of those events and those who participate in them all the more important and relevent, something you don't get in MMOs with instanced missions and quests.

This is a massive part of the attraction for Ryzom for me, what I do matters, I can work hard at being the hero and it actually means something.

I stayed behind in the holding action that thwarted the Karavan forces in the Prime Roots rescuing the agent they were trying to murder. That means a lot more than...

'Visit the wizard Squilookle at Dingle Dell, take a sprocket to the Dwarf Bimblesnout at Barfgrove so he can built a Bimbulator for you, which will enable you to raid the caves of Sqwank and bring me a minky crystal'

All your argument says to me is that the guides should be doing more of these events, one or more a day and smaller ones.

You can't depend on events to keep things moving, keep players interested, and make players feel involved. As I said it's not possible for players to be online everytime there is an event. Even if they are online, they might not have to time needed to take part or might not be able to get to it. The only way events would work is if they happened all the time and that isn't possible. You don't beleive me, go play The Matrix Online. There needs to be missions and other things that let the player experience the story and feel a part of things everytime they log on.

would be nice to be able to get the kami champion title after the event for instance :) since the event was a headless chicken race i spent all night on it with people gaining dp and then got told the next day there was an npc we should have spoken to for the title =/

I am tired, irritable and have been sick for a few days. I have very low bodoc-dropping tolerance today :(

Yes you can.

Events have actual meaning as they're one offs. You may do less of them but they're far more involving and meaningful and can have genuine storyline impact. If the Karavan had successfully assasinated the agents I'm sure things would be taking a different path on our server than they are now.

I've seen the Matrix played and have friends who are deep into it, but for me it still renders missions and storyline pointless if people are doing them over and over again and doing them has no real impact. Even the big battles in AdventureQuest are more significant than that!

And yes, the events need to happen all the time and you know what, they could!

A problem on our server is the timezones, with the US and Europe spread many hours apart its hard to have 'sweet spot' zones that can get as many as possible involved. I don't envy the guides their job.

i believe part of the problem has been over promising and under delivering. We are going to be doing x, y and z. We get ummmm a. Maybe players expect too much and the production times maybe unfair to compare to bigger companies. Its simple......outposts are 6 months away. then for 6 months ppl know its not coming for 6 months. Ultimately to keep people hanging on things are promised and not delivered only makes them leave and not come back.

To be fair to the people who are paying for the game...not delivered not playin.....

if this continues there wont be a ryzom to be debating this issue....

we had member leave for 3 months come back and say....hey there is nothing new and then say this time i am leaving for good..they have promised x for way too long to know its not worth payin subscription or hanging around.

as player we have been more than patient with the many things promised but not delivered. once again lets hope its soon whilst people are still here.
