Great set of answers.... I am in exactly in same situation as the original poster.... In for at least 14 days to try this out after having got bored with SWG (great crafting system) and WoW (worst crafting I have ever tried... don't know why they bothered).

I hit lvl 60 in WoW after some hardcore play and discovered there was nothing left to do and the only expansions are all PvP which I don't enjoy. I am looking for a good gathering/crafting experiance and I have a couple of additional questions:-

1. Is the market system sufficiantly advanced to allow you to sell your crafted goods fairly easily?

2. Why the merge - this worried me. It worries me even more that every officlal message that the boards referred to has already been taken down (I have done some searching)..... What is going on?

Yes, but dont expect to get rich just like that. If you keep an eye on the stores and think about what people need and what is available, you can make a dapper.
Also one can specialize into some undocumented sub-niche where customers can find you. Trust me, it works well, just in the end you know most of your customers and they will know how to find you.

Simply put: The world having more then one MMO, and this one is not really for everyone. It is a so-called niche game. The merge was to cut costs after an ambitious kick-off.
If you plan to play for a few months, no worries. Actually, I think the game will be around for more then a year to come and maybe I will be around too, who knows.

The merge and some other actions were taken to prevent things like going bankrupt. Personally I view this as a normal and healthy line of action. Pro-active vs Reactive....

yep sure is.. high level equipment tends to converge in specific towns, and exceptional goods are normally sold on bazaar

1. The crafting/forraging system is spectacular and very addicting. As you may have read or seen there are tons and tons of different materials to gather, either by hunting or forraging (digging). You can mix and match to get different results... for examply when crafing magic amplifiers (amps)... there are three types of materials needes .... grip, shaft, and magic focus.... now you can find many different types of each of those... that have different specs and qualities.... so if you mix and match you can get an amp great for healing, or one that is good for offensive magic... or magic affliction, or sap load, or speed.... or just supreme on everything. :) Its so intriuging. :) If you havent started yet, or need help.... send me a tell. If you are on the mainland, I am Thom. If you make a new matis character... look up Amulek on the matis starter island... I dont know very much, but i do know a little, and i have access to the greatest crafters in the game.

2. I dont know much about the server merge... just assume is due to low player population, it was more economical to merge the english servers.

It is not bad and I can use it easily to sell my crafts. Number of items that you can keep at npc merchant could be increased a little in my opinion. Some players have hoped auctioning and player vendors (something might come with outpost patch).

95% crafters are forager/crafters.

There were 3 letters from Nevrax CEO about merge and related issues. I guess that they did not meet required subscription numbers to warrant 4 servers and world dynamics were hurt because of too low population (e.g. plenty of resources for everyone - no tensions).

Links to old news articles at main site does not work because whole site was completely updated just before E3. Also, the links to those 3 letters mentioned does not work atm. I guess they have been busy with E3, outpost testing and today's patch :)
