Right now you have to outdistance mobs. A slow mob like a ploderos or vorax won't be able to keep up, so eventually you'll get far enough away from it to end combat. On the other hand, a fast mob will almost be able to keep up with you even during speed run, and you won't be able to shake it.

What really bothers me most is that it's a glaring error in a system that was carefully planned out. The idea is to have a realistic ecology. But in the first place, scavengers attack on sight. Carnivores follow to the ends of the earth (in reality it's rare for a carnivore to successfully capture more than 10% of its prey and they give up relatively easily). Nothing runs away (in the creatures of Atys library many creatures are actually described as running away at the first sign of danger)

It ruins the consistency a bit for me.

Actually non-aggro mobs do when aggro mobs gets near.
If a non-aggro mob is wandering and they get within an aggro mob, they will often change direction.
This is very handy if sneaking about or harvesting in a spot which isn't safe.

Waaay back in beta a creature would flee while battleing players, this was too annoying for some so that feature is disabled now.

yeah this is a fun thing to do, I use to do it all the time when I was a newbie. You aggro an ocyx or a carnivore or whatever, that you can take, then rush a herd of herbivores and watch them scatter! good time :)
