You could have the newbie islands in the same region, but divided by walls or a canyon
Veteran players could come to the islands as ghosts. They could chat, walk/float around, maybe cast only healing spells, but couldnt give items/dappers or invite to guild.
For the karavan the ghosts could be called holograms
For the Kami the ghosts could be called astro-projections
To encourage veteran players to help the noobs you could give special titles like teacher or mentor, requirement help 20 noobs. The noobs could click on the veteran players and select either helped me or didnt help me
Other rewards could be items/dappers/fame/armor maybe a scholarly robe, or for every noob you help you get 3k less DP if you have any, or 3k less next time you die.

Welcome Boards
Re: Welcome Boards
With the current influx of new players (probably due to mmorpg.com and E3), y'all really need to speed this up and get it out. Make us a newbie board already! See all those newbie question threads down there posted, with newbies asking all the common questions that evrybody would soon asked when they started playing? They all should be in same place.
There's so many things that a vet knows, little things, that remove some of the annoyance of the game and make the game so much more enjoyable. Like how to get rid or hide that huge main system menu, how to edit macro, what does the harvesting bars mean, how does xp and dp work, how to edit a skill, etc.
So pretty please give us the newbie board, the community will help you retain new players. You won't regret it!

Re: Welcome Boards
I have tasted the dark side and I can say that server wide newbie help chat would work perfectly. That channel should be automatically activated and when player thinks he is ready he could close that. Older players could join to that channel if they like.
Constant flood of stu^H^H^Hgood questions will lower to barrier to make own questions.
There should be someone with police powers all the time.

Re: Welcome Boards
Was it only me that like that totally lost feeling I had when I started the game.
I have revisited the Newbie lands and what I found was with the 'wisdom' of my experiences through-out the journey. I found it was over to quickly....
Knowing the order in which to progress through the mobs and what to use against each of them...
Suckling Yubo -> Weeling Yubo -> Suckling Messab -> Weening Goari -> Weeling Messab ... etc
Knowing about Basic/Fine/Choice Mats -> just ment I dug till I had SP to buy Choice prospect and bang super equipment.
My personal biggest fear is now the 'game life' is drastically reduced, because of the 'gifting' and wisdom passed on.
(theres a fine line between no help and spoon feeding)
Now that all the Walk throughs, quest orders and rewards are avaliable in WoW, how long will it take for the new players to reach the same 'bored point' that the people who are leaving it are at.
(Kinda feel a bit resposible for BorgUK, desubing, he know what he has to do to catch up my levels and to just do it for the levels is no fun at all. Hes bored with Ryzom and WoW now so I wonder what the next game is I will be perstered to play )
So just a feeling, that maybe we could help 'new players' so much that they become old bored players way before there time.
I know personally that I have hit the lvl limits (in each skill) where one more major step and its just grin to lvl 250 with nothing really benefical at the end.
For example, after 210 in elem the spells are powerful enough to drop 99% of everything in game so the 210-250 is purely for the title (Please prove me wrong on this!)
So just to recap....
I am of the old school of players that like the joy or learning an interface without a manual. Its the mystery that fun for me. Once I know the answer, I tend to look for a new challange. (I am currently trying to decode the crafting system so I can predict the end result just by know the mats/grades going into it) This one is fun cas we don't have ALL the info available IG (Fiber effect power, etc on AMPs but has no stats to say this)
I encorage suggestions and new ideas, but am also cautious and aware that the time to player boredom is reducing at such a rate that a lot more will stagnate before the great new promised content arrives. (It took me nearly a year to get bored with 60% of the promised release content, that currently game, that was expected to last 6 months, so for me I am a very happy bored player )

Re: Welcome Boards
Well, some of the "technical" things can defnitely be posted, such as the interface "how to get rid of that huge menu???", the macro "how do I set up hot keys????", and some of the ingame rules such as packers "how do I get my animals from the stable?????", and stanza editing "how do I make a new spells????????".
That sort of stuff.
NEVERMIND. I think the "Beginners Guide" board here is fine for this purpose.
