Well to be honest the main reason i think im enjoying this game so much at the moment is that fact the im playing with 4 local mates. (who never really took to ryzom)

However this game does have an amazing amount of fun factor, the learning curve is far less steep than ryzom, so with in minutes you can start killing stuff (maybe dumbed down or kiddified you would say but this equals instant fun and gratification.)

When soloing down time is nearly non exsistant. Melee fighting is alittle more varied no more of the same old move over and over.

Sheer amount of quests are mind blowing these can also be shared with your pals. Content is literally Spilling from this game. Unique items which is a big winner with me.

So in retrospect Yes the feel is entirley different from ryzom no comminity sprit or general niceties going on but my big hang up is that fact that noting really happens in the world of ryzom at the moment.
If when are lucky we might get to fight off an invasion at the weekend and kill a big blue monster (big wow) thats just gotten boring now. We dont even get any decent for it rewards.

I tried to play ryzom last night but logged after 5 minutes i just cant motivate my self to dig at the moment and thats all there is to do now :S

I do feel like im cheating on my first love but this affair shall continue untill/if this romance fizzles out. I wont be canceling my account just yet :)

Been playing WOW all weekend. It is very different from Ryzom and the community is far less friendly than this one.

Takes a lot long to find a group in WOW than Ryzom.

I am enjoying WOW though. I've always felt that Ryzom is very unforgiving for the 'casual' gamer. Those of us who have to work and don't get a lot of free time due to other rl commitments.

I know that in all MMPORPG's you need to put in a serious amount of time, but so far, WOW seems more suited to my way of playing. It takes about 30 seconds to load the game and get in (as long as your not playing on a full server, where the waiting time to get in can be over an hour at peak time).

I love ryzom. It's my first experience at online gaming and really enjoy it. I do find that i only really get a benefit from it if i can play for longer than an hour a time though.

Time will tell. Bring on the outposts!

You're exaggerating, right? :( Seriously, upto an hour before you can connect? And that's your 'regular' server, that you'd connect to every time you play?

I've had no peronal experience of this. But there is an official anouncement from Blizzard on the wow europe homepage.

Seems that the PvP servers (realms) are mostly full and there is a waiting time to get on during peak.

All PvE servers are fine (i use a PvE one) and takes around 30 secs to load the game from desktop, to actually playing.

If thats true, my evenings play would be something like is...

1hr drive home from work.
Start game.
Go watch TV for 1hr
Come back.
play for 10-15 mins
Go eat dinner.
What some more TV
come back to find game disconnected due to inactivity.
start game.
return to watch TV
wonder at 11pm whether 1hr of WoW or some sleep.

Sleep I think will win.

I grubmle that it takes 5 mins to load Ryzom :D and 1 min if I get disconnected.

Think I will stick with what I know :P

I have played WoW through the whole Final Beta. A Gnomemagican and an Nightelf Warrior. It was a lot of fun. You are right, many things are like a cartoon. The voice-emotes are sometimes very funny. Some quests are pure jokes. My first big quest for the mage was to catch 3 ghosts haunting an Inn :) After stuned them with some frost-spells you can catch them with a device much like the device from Ghostbusters :) And so is the whole game...

But when FinalBeta was done i didnt find it funny anymore. You already know every quest and joke. The world is to crowded by beasts. They do not move in herds like in SoR. Sometimes you have to kill many, really many just to get a mushroom or something...

Crafting in WoW is quite useless. You can buy or find by drop anything you need.
My warrior never did anything in any of his professions ;) Lazy gui just smashed ghostpirates or something. Just a tank...

You can *not* compare SoR and WoW. They are not the same genre. I guess in 3-6 months most players are maxlvl 60 and the most action will be on the battlefields.

Now, when sitting somewhere digging for 3 hours i wonder if i grew old ? ;) )
No fun, no action.. just sitting there and digging mats.. and i am happy with it :)

Bah its a matter of what your looking for in the game and finding the one you enjoy most.
Me and a r/l friend both played the WoW open Beta - after a 3 day download using some sort of dodgy torrent downloader i was quite looking forward to playing it......

I played for about 45 minutes at most and discovered it wasnt for me. Where my friend is happilly playing now and loving it.

Im fed up of 'slaying' orcs, goblins and dragons,
Im fed up of having almost the exact same character as everyone else in the 'class' (both in looks and in skills)
Im fed up of having little chabs stealing my kills and leeching the nectar that is xp
Im fed up of being told i 'suxx0rz' in region chat
Im fed up of finding a 'lvl150 super-mega-slasher sword of Uberness' from a rat

So after 'racing' around to kill something (it literally is a race in WoW as there seems to be a shortage of mobs to the amount of players) and having the prize taken at nearly every oppertunity.
And after taking a moonvile potion to mr longbeard in moonhavenvale i quickly uninstalled - never to set foot in that ugly place again.

I feel Online games are progressing from this and that Ryzom is a step in the right direction (a small step...but that gets bigger every patch)

I also just had a pleasant afternoon reading the WoW forums....joy
