Id like to plea to all the crafters out there: craft some low Quality armor and weapons to resell them via the traders. The market for Q10-Q100 weapons and armor tends to be deserted and empty, so there are no good weapons for the newbies to buy and get things going. Check and supply the traders! Ryzom is much more fun with a good weapon doing some damage.

I remember running around in my first days and getting the creeps because of the lack of weapons. I dont like giving away stuff - id say its much more satisfying to earn them by hard work with my own dappers spend.

Just my 2 dappers,

Vivy

I will check on the low lvl armor and if it is low in the Lake Lands, I can craft some and sell them at low margins. But I wont promise grat stuff, mostly up to lvl80-90 I make from mobmats that I find when hunting...

You can generally find light armour of q100 with boosts on the vendors that I've made. As light doesn't have any requirements it makes sense to do it that way for me rather than making say, q50 or 60. There's also a shed load of jewels up to q90 for anyone who wants them, and I try to keep the vendors stocked with at least 3 full sets.

As far as weapons go, several times I have put a number of 2h swords on there, all choice with max damage, and yet they never seem to sell. Maybe my prices are too high on those items, I don't know...

Note: Slightly Offtopic

Hello

Although I agree with most of what has been told here, and I applause the original post, in my opinion there are several issues. I am also proud of the Ryzom mature community and I am also trying with my humble contribution to make new players feel welcome.

Nevertheless, in this post I am going to play the picky one, "mean part/devil's lawyer" (no flame intended, feel free to disagree, I guess I'm bored at the office, and felt like writing :P ). I am not whining, I am very happy with the game for now, but I will try to arise some points in fairness. Being nice to people is not just a matter of "Giving them gear"/"Answering questions".

True, if new players don't need to spend their time doing unpleasant things they will enjoy the game more. But:

* Bottom feeding has also its drawbacks. Part of the fun is becoming a grown up homin by yourself. Getting used from the very beginning to the supreme living sword of damage has a spoiling part.

* It will artificially increase the leveling rate. To some players it is perfectly fine. To others it may not.

* Ignorance has never been an excuse for laziness (doh' I sound like my first grade teacher!). In other off-ryzom communities they often use the RTFM atysian affliction missile. With our mature karavan/kami nature, we can be more polite and direct them to sources of information

* There is a difference between what players "need" and what players "want". If a player plays on a different timezone and he is walking around naked, I'll be the first to craft him an armor. I will not be a supreme high quality fyros black light.

* It is also encourages "laziness" and "begging": why would I do this if I can get it for free?. Or the "Hello, are you busy? I've been told that you can craft q200 amps, can I have a 97% ele power plz? I'm afraid I have no dapper, I just hunt"

* Having top gear easily available, even free of charge may have an impact on low level crafters and harvesters. If you can't sell your crafted items, or you can't feel like you are helping a player with your efforts, you lose interest. That lvl 10 jeweler will also be happy to give a q20 set of HP to a friend.

* I rez as soon as I see someone in need of it. Nevertheless, I've witnessed a rather selfish behaviour in which players just take more risk and get the "someone will rez me, anyway" attitude, and forgetting that the harvester that will rez him has had to stop his noble art to rez him. People asking for a rez every 15 minutes makes me thing something is wrong.

Thanks for bearing with me
A.

I agree that we shouldn't make life 'THAT' easy that new players get lazy, but when you see a poor nekid homin brother or sister wandering around, using a NPC sword, you got to have some pity!

I hate to say pity. Maybe i'm just a sucker.

The same way, as a kid, use to take in stray cats & dogs in the nieghbourhood.

I'll continue supplying free/cheap/discounted q30-q90 weapons and armour to those in need. I usually cover my costs, or just use mats that i would get rid of anyway.

Ahhh. Feeling all warm & fuzzy! Happy Friday all!

People like me and quite a few others on the forum here disagree out of habit.

True, very very true. We have enough spoiled people already (hey, my lvl160 heavy is almost worn out, are you up to 170 soon?)
iphdrunk wrote: * It will artificially increase the leveling rate. To some players it is perfectly fine. To others it may not.
That is something that each individual has to decide for himself. When I got a lvl100 jewelset with max focus, I was quite low lvl. I gotta say I almost never had troubles with focus after that and lvl'ing was pretty fast, but I myself didnt mind, most mats dug up were made into item I gave away.

True, but I see that in use already. Just keep a small list of usefull sites around that can be posted on region when asked about info. Others may answer the question, but the person asking the question will get the hint, even he is treated nicely.
iphdrunk wrote: * There is a difference between what players "need" and what players "want". If a player plays on a different timezone and he is walking around naked, I'll be the first to craft him an armor. I will not be a supreme high quality fyros black light.
Can you craft that? Can I buy one with focus that is above lvl 160? I have, ehm, 250K but I can also empty the packers, I think it will go up to 1.5M. Ehm, that is a mount and an appartment... Hmmm, nvm ;-) .
But you just made me think up a use for all the armor mats I have no real use for I dig up in other lands.

My answer: sure, bring me the mats times 4 to compensate for degrades and as payment. No mats? Well, I am sorry I cant help you there then.

True again. Man, this is frustrating!

This is a well known mistake by new players, the rez part and has been discussed quite lengthy in another thread here, please dont start again here :-) . (btw: I tend to tell em to seek lower level mobs, cause this is the fourth and last time. In Region. Then ask for a healer of the same level in region. They learn mostly after that)

EDIT: Added off thread note.
You were right on quite a few points here, mostly on the spoiling. But (HA, the disagreeing!) I think spoiled brats are told their place pretty quick, thankfull people that dont expect to get thing for free will get much more then asked for. Also I remember the time I spend about 100K on a lvl30 green heavy armor (it HAD to be heavy), that he payed 30K for after he hunted for two hours to get to the 30K. I didnt told him the loss, gave him some jewels as a special offer...

So we are mature, you know there is the slight chance that the new players are adults too? low lvl ones, but the guy that you give a lvl40 heavy could be older then your dad :-)

Grtz,
