Thoughts on the event...

1) No Dp = no fear, no fear = no excitement

2) GM lolling about smirking adds nothing to the tension and adds to the impression that a Deus ex Machina is in control, irrespective of the efforts of the players

3) AI almost totally passive, so players run around in a formless mob, despite the excellent efforts of some people to organise them (why organise if the outcome is preordained and death at worst = respawn and rejoin)

4) Actual battle laggy

On the positive side, as for previous events, large numbers of players are good to look at and fun to be a part of. However, that kind of stimulus quickly wears off.

Will i attend to the next event, no. As far as I can tell, i misunderstood the capability/nature of the Kitin AI. currently it is on a par with the UO 'invasions'.

I'm hoping that the open pvp will start soon, so that some interesting conflicts/battles can occur between the races/factions. Otherwise, I and many others will be leaving in search of pastures new.

Hope this doesn't come across as a flame, I appreciate that many people enjoy this sort of thing.

i agree, would also keep the people away who only want to make trouble

>> 2) GM lolling about smirking adds nothing to the tension and adds to the

they actually couldn't control anything that goes beyond the number and level of the mobs at the moment, basically they were just having a little fun themselves ^^

>> 3) AI almost totally passive, so players run around in a formless mob,

i was told that the event planners at nevrax actually consider events like this as small fry, so there is much more coming up :)
if you compare it with previous events it also makes sense, each event they are adding more and more things that make the event more and more complex, and by using the input of the players(yes, they do) continually improve them and iron out the wrinkles for the next event

>> 4) Actual battle laggy
in fyros we had about 200 people and god knows how many kitins, the ping was about 500 at the worst for me
perhaps your lag problem is related with your graphics, since the current engine does not run seperate threads for network and graphics, so slow pics mean big lag =)

afaik open pvp is already active, those regions are in the lands of umbra and nexus. given the current opinion of a quite large part of the community towards it, i doubt that nevrax will go beyond outpost pvp

>> Hope this doesn't come across as a flame, I appreciate that many people enjoy this sort of thing.
actually this was a very nice and precise post =)

Well, I do hope they read these threads since between them got almot 6000 views and had some very constructive feedback.

Considering one of the biggest complaints was awful directions, can't say initial results on listening to players is promising.

We were encouraged to 'fight the kitins in their lairs!'. Um, no lairs - just camps that we'd seen before. And then, after the taking down a boss that we'd fought for an hour the night before and not made a scratch on - suddenly he goes down in 2 minutes with less people hitting him tonight than yesterday. Is the event over, since nothing seemed to change? Should we go to another camp? Well, 20 minutes later...an announcement that we'd won...this after a number of other efforts/deaths to find another boss. And then...'help your Zorai/Tryker brothers!' Wonderful...if you have the spawns. Not wonderful if you have to power over there without GM help.

Based on xenofur's comments on the German server, I think a lot of this falls on the shoulders of the EE staff and not Nevrax. Either way, needs a whole lot of improvement.

Actually, it wasn't just the battle itself that ran slow. It was everywhere. Run speed was down to a walk 2 zones away. And this wasn't an uncommon complaint. Almost makes me wonder if we really want a whole lot more folks playing all at once if this is the result...

Add in no reward for those of us who were in the final battle to finish all of this up - I'm not asking for a q200 supreme dagger of uberness, just the equivalent of a title or such - and there's a lot of work to be done. As I've said all along, I appreciate it as its much better than just grinding

But after all that effort both programmers and players put forth could have been done a lot, lot better.

Just a simply Broadcast @ which the guilds are named who participated would be nice... in Fyros... i saw a team samsara,... a team clan omins... and some mixed teams...

DCP was with 3 teams at least there,... i dont say DCP should have been in that broadcast all alone,... but it would have been nice only if the participating guilds would have been noticed.. instead of the :

" The Fyros and the Matis... bla bla .. "...

It would have been a nice gift... to all guilds who did participate... and the Devs...wouldnt have given nice prices away... to ppl...

But heey... i was very pessimistic... bout the event... but from friday till we beated those bosses today,... i have been very enthiousastic bout it,..

so i hope the devs learn from this... and to be honest .. i have never been in a game... with an event which last 1 week...

I am on the Wind. Server, and the only problem I saw with the event was the targeting, if you hit space, you targeted someone in your raid, so you had to manually click on mobs, which was near to impossible in some circumstances and you had to count on Bomb attacks to kill of the hordes.

We faired a bit different, Kipuryk in each land, well, we stopped him from reaching any of our outposts or camps.

Battle on him takes from 15+ minutes of constant hitting, and in different lands he is weak to different types of magic attack, and you NEED to be level 90+ even to stand a chance to hit him, at level 94, avg damage is about 100 hp, Most I saw people hit him for (and I think there were level 220+ tanks) was around 600 damage a swing.

So, ya, Avg guards that you create with a q50 package, well, will never touch him, you need prime guards atleast or better.

In around 4 hours we had 2 of the bosses done, the other two will be dead probably before 4am EST at the rate the groups are working on them.

Anyway, good luck on killing Kipuryk in every land.
Actually he is the LEAST of your worries, getting to him is the battle.

Agree fully with post #1, especially the parts about people losing interest through an apparent lack of results.

When it first started we tried to organise as if it were an invasion like we'd seen before, but as soon as people realised there was a reward, just about everyone (myself included) then went off to get tokens and basically the whole 'united Homins' thing fell apart.

Never really seemed to pick up again, and although I did spend some time making swords etc, I never really felt I was really accomplishing anything, so in the end I essentially gave up. I know quite a few others who did the same.

Having said all that, I have to say hats off to Nevrax et al for at least trying to spice things up. I havn't seen events this complex and long lasting in any other MMOG I've played, unless it was Christmas or something like that.

There were ceratinly more than 3 guilds participating, and some people were guildless, so how would this work ?

There were "rewards" during the invasion, unique weapons for instance. The final reward was liberating our lands from the kitin and regaining our hunting and foraging areas.

Given to all but paid for by a few, which is my point.
