I'm still waiting to use my TCoS beta key, its the only new thing coming out that has my attention really.
Shame you didn't like LOTRO, I really do like it, but its too easy IMO, I'm levelling too fast and am afraid I will out grow it too quickly, hopefully they will raise the level cap soon, there is some new level 50 content due out mid-feb that I am looking forward too though.
I was really disappointed of LOTRO. I bought the game in august (so, independently from the Ryzom's fate) hoping to get something fresh.
Unfortunately there is nothing fresh in LOTRO. Everything is cloned so, considering just the graphic, it is just an exercise to get "a well-looking environment-without-any-heart". Yes, it's beautiful sometimes, but all of you that played Ryzom know what I mean: the whole concept should give you a 'feeling', something you get with different elements (not just some gradient-colored sunset that you can find in any picture) such as sounds, effects, animations and structures. A fantasy game doesn't need just a 'realistic' world, it needs a 'magical' world. Despite of the engine now a bit old, Atys is (was?) a magical world, and considering what was the state-of-the-art in 2004, it's still at top, imho.
Consider the animals in Atys: they are not realistic in the design as in other games, but the way the animations were done, gives them a great sense of naturalness. All other MMO: mobs just stand still or roam a bit all in the same way, so what's the point in having a 'realistic' wild boar if it acts as dumbed puppet?
Always rigorously imho.
