I didn't say there aren't exceptions. :p

As for the roleplayers, here's some examples of the reasons:
- The bankruptcy that led to Gameforge taking over.
- Gameforge's ending the contract with the Jolt CSR program.
- Order of the Dragonblade's shattering and its aftermath.
- Some members of House Etchmarc and Seeds of Atys eloped with a high(er?)-RP MUD.
- The release of Vanguard.
Jelathnia, Kasarinia, KianShi, Maethro, ShuaLi, and OPaxie (Arispotle)

Think of it this way (talking to anyone and everyone reading this).

Besides saying this and that, "I don't want to play if at any moment now, mom will come and turn off the light", this sucks, company sucks, we're screwed, I'm leaving for this game, pointless, .... , ask yourself what can you really do ?

- give the company all your money
- give up and simply go for another game
- or just play the game in any way you want, to show the company someone still cares about the game and maybe this can be seen through the eyes of other companies thinking "humm, I am thinking about buying this game company but has everyone given up on it ? Will I still have players ? Can I still make money to pay my programers ? Is this game a dead duck ? What would be the point of my buying it if I cannot make a profit out of it ?"

Still thinking about doing a full 3d rendering of Fyros (call it Ryzom 3.0 if you like).

Whilst you say that there is so much more to this game than PvP or 250 levels (which would be correct), you also seem to look down your nose at people that want to do this, saying that it isn't the 'true' Ryzom. I mean, who are you to say what the true Ryzom is?. For some, like yourself it's roleplaying, but for a great many others it IS grinding to reach new levels and be more effective at PvP etc. This is what Ryzom means to them and so is also the 'true' Ryzom.

Some people don't want to come back atm (myself included) because they want to be resonably sure that any new goals they reach through time and effort won't be thrown away when the power could be turned off any day.

Yes there is the argument that it could happen at any time anyway, or you could get hit by a bus tomorrow etc etc, but it's a pretty hollow argument if you don't mind me saying. Yes it COULD happen at any given time, but with full financial backing under a good company it most likely won't. If the game is secured i'll certainly be back to continue boss hunting, PvP'ing, grinding (not RP'ing :P ) etc, but until then i'll be elsewhere always keeping a very close eye on what's happening here.

Kodel.
And you did see the quotation I´ve set the "true" in, did you?
And you did read what I wrote later?
Doesn´t seem so.

Anyway, in my personal oppinion it´s simply a sad fact that so many people tend to miss out on so many other things to do besides PvPGrind.

You don´t like "the other stuff", so nobody will force you to do it.
It´s just something I don´t understand, just as you probably don´t understand why some of us don´t like PvPGrind.
Thank God for differnt tastes, I say, the questions are mood.
This issue will never be solved, it´s simply a fact of gaming-life.
So go somewhere else, "keep an eye" on Ryzom, and may the Grind be with you ;)

I joined this game 3 years ago and have done plenty of "the other stuff" i'll thank you very much. The only difference is I and a few others need BOTH playstyles in order to enjoy this game enough to continue playing. I need a bit more than a 3D chatroom for my gaming experience. For all you that only want or need one, then fair play, i'm not saying it's either bad or good. I was merely trying to point out why some have gone and it's not because they are braindead grinders who just burnt out, or that they have no imagination to RP.

P.S. I am somewhere else already, I already told you that. The door didn't hit me on the way out either ;)

Can we stop grinding on the subject of "I left because..." and "I didn't leave because..."?

I keep seeing new posts in this thread and getting excited that there might be some news. None of this is news. We hashed it out a long time ago. Some people stayed, some people left, and a few ghosts hang around the forums moaning and clanking their chains.

I hope you'll all be in game when the new owners finally show up. Meanwhile, let's go have some fun. Somewhere. Atys for me.

Cheers, y'all! :)

More content. Ryzom needs more of it; A whole lot of new stuff, otherwise it's not worth coming back to the same old grind. What have we all to look forward to after such a long, long wait. And, If new stuff should come, it just means an even longer wait. So the new company better keep this in mind, if it wants 'greatness' to return. There's just far too many other good games out there (F2P no doubt) hooking alot of pre Ryzom meltdown players. SoR messiah BETTER have a new game plan, coz there's nothing exciting about coming back to the same ol' !@#$-grind just to merely say, "Welcome back!"

I'm not sorry if I was redundant, either. It needed to be said...

I still haven't found one. Compared to Ryzom, everything I've tried just sucks.

Wanna know what brings me back to this game besides the freedom to do what i want and not be bogged down with quests?

The community....where else can you find people so willing to go out of their way to help new people get settled in and going about their business. I as well as several others i know out there love that aspect about Ryzom. Ya it would be great to have some more end game content and the point of a MMORPG is to be able to expand and continue having new things to do. But the point of the player is to do those things and people do them so well and so fast that no matter what they put out it will get boring after awhile. I for one will be there taking my time and enjoying myself in the company of polite and nice people when that time comes.

Im sorry i have no news to post and update anything but i thought i would throw my two sense in the jumble.

Here is a suggestion by the way...how bout we make a thread on here that everyone can put in their suggestions as to what we would like to see for end game content when the company finally kicks this game back in to overdrive. Then we will have detailed accounts that the devs could look at and have some fresh ideas. Im sure they had lots planned for the game and no money or time to do anything with that content, but give it time and throw what you want out there and give people the ideas to make a great game better!

katriell wrote:Who's more likely to enjoy the game more fully for a longer time, though? People like Acridiel, browserice, kalindra, kuroari, Beau, etc. Apparently they are the optimal audience for Ryzom, because I've seen many people focus on the grind only to bore themselves and leave, sometimes with disgruntled forum posts in their wake. I don't recall seeing any such behaviour out of the make-your-own-fun, sit-and-watch-the-fireflies type.

There was that bit-by-bit mass-exodus of Arispotle roleplayers a while back, but each bit was due to a different reason that had little or nothing to do with this subject, as far as I know.

By the way: *points at House Etchmarc and Order of the Dragonblades, attempting to make the existence (or at least, former existence) of RP-PvPers known*

But, all that aside, I feel this is no time for a battle of the playstyles.
Been playing longer than you, on more toons than you and will always be around so i guess i'll be around just as long as those who chose not to level. We play the game very differently but the odds of me grinding myself out is slim.

I am not the type of person who grinds to get lvl 250 nuke then quits the next day.

For me the game is about the people in it, pvp and grinding. In that order.

I chose not to play much at the moment for the simple reason, all 3 things i play for are slowly dying. Less people are playing, there are less people who can put up a worth while fight in pvp and for those two reasons i cannot bring myself to grind.

I pay my subs just like every other player here, and i will be here untill the end just like alot of devoted players, i don't know why you seem to think because you don't level you are somehow a bigger asset to the game and are "more dedicated". Get off your high horse, we are all players and i don't think anyone can deny the game is not at the greatest point right now. I am playing other games but when i hear what is going on i'll be back.

Until then have fun :)

PS: @ acridiel, i say the game isn't fun until lvl 250 and that is my view, you clearly feel very differently but i don't shoot you down for saying it and it would be nice if you to extend that curtsy.
