So, maybe you can do the missions if you can survive long enough when you walk into the FvF area.
*shrug* just one of many flaws in the system

After looking at the notes provided regarding Episode 2, it would appear that the only role for a neutral character will be on a role play basis. Since I play a neutral character but I am not really into role play, am I to assume that Ryzom will have nothing new to offer players like myself?
If I'm misunderstanding this please let me and other players like me know what there will be for us.

Sekhmet, I would think the question should be more like "If these events didn't take place, what fun would it be for us ?"
In order to open up the story/lands/gameplay we have to get the story to those points. This is an "Episode"... Though I would like to see area's like Wastelands fixed before new lands arrive, waiting on it to happen will not amount to anything.
Before they turned on this episode, what were we doing ?
What we be doing still today without the onset of Episode 2 ? The big picture is what everyone should be looking towards, nobody is getting killed that hasn't chose a side in this war. You choose a side by entering into the agreement with the corresponding teleport guardian... If you dont do that, how has the game changed for you ?
I believe the event area too small to really be enjoyed, but I had a great bit of fun last night shooting my guns... I knocked some down, I got knocked down... I said hey to the same folks I normally do and smacked the same as normal. Maybe I missed it, but I saw not one discouraging word the whole time in region chat... No more/less calls for a rez than in GoC... We are serving our faction and having a little fun... Okay, having ALOT of fun...
How can the storyline evolve when nobody wants to follow it ?

DT, you've misunderstood my post if you believe that I'm complaining about PvP or that I'm complaining about last night's event at all.

You don't have to participate in the event, there is still there rest of Atys to use.
It is a bit more empty than usual, but that leaves more space for the harvesters.

They are relooking the neutral thingy it appears from the latest news... what that means and how long it takes is another story.
Sorry if I went on a rant there... certain folks are misleading the newer members of the community... I saw many so called "neutral" players (as I am sure you did) siding with a faction last night inspite of their guilds stance... do I mind, nah, I want everyone to have fun and play the game in the manner they enjoy without taking that same thing away from others.

I couldn't agree more.
I entered the area via the Karavan tp (the Kami one is not available to me) last night and again today. But I did not and will not participate in any faction activity. I was curious what the area looked like and wanted the opportunity to explore a new area. After doing so I left the area and returned to my digging in PR.
The Kami killing me didn't bother me at all...but now those kinchers aggro'ing me from miles away ticked me off.
I agree there is a place for PvP and factions (it's always been part of the plan). I'm simply wondering if there is a place for those of us who don't want to bow down to someone else as well as for those who don't wish to PvP.

That's because they've made faction automatic rather than a choice and if you want to reap any reward or take part in any story you have no real choice.
There are a lot of people limiting themselves to digging/kitin fighting or healing though.

sooooo true.. many of the hominists that wrote nice speeches were the first ones to jump in and press the trigger
- more power to them - and I saw lots of homins that "give value to a homin's life and will only attack to defend their lives and their friends" at the very first raids
You can say of course that game mechanics assign you to a faction, but no game mechanic puts your amp on you or wields your sword.
My point is.... I understand and applaud hominist, neutral positions, but according to what I see, it was not the majority of players
