After reading Slippery's and Dakhound's posts Acridiel I can't help but think you have missed the point they are trying to get across. No news in this case looks like bad news. As more of your friends leave due to lack of news your own enjoyment diminishes also which makes you wonder why you still play.
Lots of people still have a presence in Ryzom even though there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. That shows what a great game people think this is. Remember though that if not for a legal loophole of sorts we would all have been forced to stop playing 2 months ago.
Just because people decide to spend less time playing Ryzom doesn't mean they have given up on it, it just means they are prolly playing another game too in case Ryzom does cease to exist.

I realize that and there´s nothing wrong with it.
But what I´m criticizing is the proposed "fact": "no lvl 250 = no proper Game experience".
Wich is simply a missconception.
While I can understand people enjoying PvP for PvPs sake, I can´t get over the fact that they miss so much other good stuff about the game.
The natural competetiveness of PvP is of course one part of their enjoinment and nobody wants to spoil that for them. It just irks me to no end that these people don´t get tired of seeing their way of playing as the only viable style and tend to load this in Newcomers and resindents alike. With such quotes as above mentioned.
It´s simply not true.
Adittionaly while you say "no news = bad news", why can´t you say: "no news = no bad news at least."?
The Glass is half full, y´know

kalindra wrote:It doesn't take any lvl 250 to really enjoy the game. I have none. Surviving a run through aggro-infested lands with basically no offensive skills is much more exciting than blasting away with a lvl 250 mage. It still seems to me that travelling through Void was much more challenging when I didn't have a lvl 150 in melee.
I totaly agree with you. I am a just a melee lvl 50 and all other skills are either 60 or lower then 50. I travel from one end of Fyros to the other (except ground zero). I have sometimes tried foolishly to go against MOBs 2x stronger then me or do a kamikaze attack just for fun but I still manage to have lots of fun with this game. I keep playing.
The best I had so far was when it was a MOB free day (due to mis-rebooted server). I found myself walking around on ground zero just for fun when all of a sudden POOOFFF!!!! OMG MOBS EVERYWHERE, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE !!! These are actual sentences I typed including others. I had a blast with other players in the same situation and we were crying of laughter.
I chose Ryzom because of the freedom of choice I have in it. I can do anything and learn everything. I am not info PVP, teams or Guilds (at least not for now).
I admit since Oct-2007, I have tried 1-2 MMO trials but so far, I haven't found anything that gives me as much joy, fun, relaxing times, learing times as Ryzom.
Now for the past month, I've had this itch about doing renderings about Ryzom. I am in Fyros and thinking about it. When I become passionate about a game, I tend to do 3d renderings about it. I just have to find the time to do it (if I ever decide).

Acridiel. Whilst you say that there is so much more to this game than PvP or 250 levels (which would be correct), you also seem to look down your nose at people that want to do this, saying that it isn't the 'true' Ryzom. I mean, who are you to say what the true Ryzom is?. For some, like yourself it's roleplaying, but for a great many others it IS grinding to reach new levels and be more effective at PvP etc. This is what Ryzom means to them and so is also the 'true' Ryzom.
Some people don't want to come back atm (myself included) because they want to be resonably sure that any new goals they reach through time and effort won't be thrown away when the power could be turned off any day.
Yes there is the argument that it could happen at any time anyway, or you could get hit by a bus tomorrow etc etc, but it's a pretty hollow argument if you don't mind me saying. Yes it COULD happen at any given time, but with full financial backing under a good company it most likely won't. If the game is secured i'll certainly be back to continue boss hunting, PvP'ing, grinding (not RP'ing
) etc, but until then i'll be elsewhere always keeping a very close eye on what's happening here.
Kodel.

Who's more likely to enjoy the game more fully for a longer time, though? People like Acridiel, browserice, kalindra, kuroari, Beau, etc. Apparently they are the optimal audience for Ryzom, because I've seen many people focus on the grind only to bore themselves and leave, sometimes with disgruntled forum posts in their wake. I don't recall seeing any such behaviour out of the make-your-own-fun, sit-and-watch-the-fireflies type.
There was that bit-by-bit mass-exodus of Arispotle roleplayers a while back, but each bit was due to a different reason that had little or nothing to do with this subject, as far as I know.
By the way: *points at House Etchmarc and Order of the Dragonblades, attempting to make the existence (or at least, former existence) of RP-PvPers known*
But, all that aside, I feel this is no time for a battle of the playstyles.

I agree with the mysterious Kat (i WILL find out who you are one day O.o ) , this isn't the time to be bickering over playstyles. get over it and get back to do doing whatever it is you're doing (hopefully that's being IG with the rest of us
)

It is still nice to see that people can disagree on the forums without falling back on insults. This is the true measure of Ryzoms community I think. Also reading the universe channel on Ryzom compared to other games I have tried recently shows just how special this community is, and is one of the reasons why I will always return as long as there is a game to come back too.

I like to 'make my own fun' as much as the next person. But uhm...I pay to play a game so that people will give me interesting things to do. It is the case that in MMOs we are often expected to do things together to make the world more enjoyable -- but I do have to ask myself...why have a great many roleplayers left the game if they are still able to make their own fun?
I can't answer that question, but for me; despite being 'new' (I -have- been here over a year now) I have seen nothing new in the entire time I've been here. Oh wait, that's a lie -- we got a gambling wheel. On top of that, a great number of bugs that never got fixed, and huge promises from spindoctors whom I doubted in the first place (looks like I was vindicated).
And now? Well, second bankruptcy in the time I've been subscribed; now new and curious players cannot help support by paying -- because they don't have anyone to pay!! Mystery is all well and good, but financial mysteries are not cool -- either someone owns rights and properties of the game and will keep it up...or this extended limbo is going to end and the people clinging on will have to move on.
Like so many people have said already; open up subscriptions -- I'll pay, we'll support this game that we like so much (for whatever reason). But right now we can't do that; and no news is -not- good news. Many MMOs are having money pulled out from under them these days (even Fury, brand new...) -- but you only have to look at something like Everquest to see where people are getting the opinion 'I don't want to play if rug will be pulled out from under my feet and I wasted my time'. Everquest has been around for nearly 8 years now -- and some poor shmucks at SOE are still making content for it!! And yes, there are still people enjoying playing that game. People who've been doing it since the game was released! It is -not- too much to ask for some commitment by a service provider.
So, will I stay or will I go? I linger, for friends, for old-time's sake -- but in even this short period of one year that I've been here...I've seen nearly all my friends leave. I've made new ones, but this is not the same thing...If some group of people show some interest and concern about the direction of the game -- then let me log back in. Otherwise, I enjoyed playing a unique, refreshing and cordial MMO -- I'll take that with me
