Okay, I'm one of the 'trialers attracted by the news'. I had never heard of the game until I read about the news of the .org trying to buy the code (don't really keep up on MMOs). I would just like to say a few things (please do not take this as from the ryzom.org community, take it as a single persons opinion who agrees with what ryzom.org is trying to accomplish):
1) I do not think that ryzom.org is the *best* option. This I'm very conflicted about. From my computer geek side I would *love* to see the Ryzom game released under GPL. Do I think it's the best option for "the game"? No. There is no way that the .org community would be able to compete with a Multi-million dollar company in producing content, etc.. for the game.
1a) If no company will buy the code (that would actually run the game), then yes; I would hope that ryzom.org would be able to purchase the code. In the short time that I have been playing the game (trial) I've completly enjoyed it, and would hate to see it 'trashed', or bought just for the 'IP' value never to see the light of day again. It's to good for that.
2) I don't believe that everyone that joined the ryzom.org community goes for the 'Free Software' side, though I'm sure that quite a few do. I personally believe that many, if it does open up, will try to do what is best for "the game" as a whole (opinions will differ here I'm sure). That includes keeping with the original Lore, etc... Some will, I'm sure, just want to take it run their own shard, and never think about where it came from again.
3) _I_ don't want to change your thoughts, feeling, whatever. *If* the game does go to ryzom.org, I would hope that you'd express what you want to see happen there. If you do not want to continue playing, it's your choice; If you want to go into 'wait and see' mode, again it's your choice. But I'd like to see everyone who is part of the SoR community voice their opinion. I've read many of the threads; I've been trying to read up on some of the Lore and background on the game as I have time. *All of you* have 'lived' it and helped build it, and your input would be invaluable to _anyone_ that takes over the game. Atys is *your* world; Tell whoever gets it that.
I'll freely admit that I know very little about the game, but as I've said I have been trying to learn as time allows. Being stuck off the Mainland does limit what I can do (in game), but I'm _trying_ to learn. The factions stuff really doesn't make a lot of sense game wise, but again I'm stuck in a small area to try figuring it out in (I mean really, if they dislike each other so much why would they get together to 'teach' members of the other faction?).
Anyway, the above just sparked an uncontrollable need to post for some reason. Above all, just remember that no matter what happens *you* are the ones that bring the world alive. If there are no players, there's no reason for the world to exist... No matter who gets it, give 'em a chance (even if it's Sony ... ya never know.... ;P )

PS. Sorry if the above is kinda detached and outta order... 2:30 ... gotta sleep
