if you think Ryzom had bot problem then, just wait when client goes open. from the 'dig-craft-sell-repeat' virtually in any non pvp (heck even pvp) zone, to small assist 'gadgets' for every day live in atys.
yes they can ban the unassisted 'night' macros, but not the gadget users.
at least with closed client, boting is somewhat complicated.

go-go gadget dig!

You can't alter client code without altering the server code or anything would work. You can just incorporate a bot into the client, but anything else require the server ack. Incorporating a bot has the same use of an external bot, so why do the effort?

For me, and most of us, figuring out recipes or how to use daggers in PvP effectively IS where the "real fun stuff" is. If I can't think it's really no fun for me. If I'm not badly mistaken, in this case, Open Source doesn't mean Free to Play. There would be official servers run with a CSR team, functioning as we are used to.
Amen to that. I'm one of those people that feels a greater sense of satisfaction when I can step back and honestly say I did it all myself. Unfortunately this usually means I'm levelling against gingos in my own handmade tatty scraps of clothing ... but then those gingos always got Taniqa anyway. If Ryzom ever became a game where a grind was key (like WoW ... *shudders*) then I'd have to go Fyra and hit someone with a yubo.

Someone mentioned Ryzom going mainstream, but ask yourself: do you really want that? If Ryzom were opened to the eyes of just everyone we could wind up with a community like that of WoW, virtually the polar opposite of Ryzom. I want Ryzom to come back just as it left us ... minus the financial difficulties, of course, and with a brighter future, so I'm apprehensive about this open source thing still, nomatter how many times you may tell me the laserbeam yubos are a figment of my imagination. Well yes, that is a very good point.

Though, its not like it wasn't doable with the current client anyways : /

xD

TBH, I think the only way Ryzom could have a WoWish community is if the game were changed dramatically...People that can't spell "what" (wot) will never be able to figure out how to make "uber" armor or weapons. It can be frustrating to not be the best and they will be gone in a week or 2... shouting the parting words of "L8R n00bz!"

Maybe the Karavan can teach me a new crafting kill to make those? ;)

This has gone off-topic again, but what's new?

Maybe I'm just obtuse, but what would be the point of botting in Ryzom?

What do you stand to gain? Another 50 million dappers? 30 more dings in some skill? So what?

Is it even possible to stake out the sup dig spots with a bot? OK, if so, maybe I can see the problem there. But that's easy to detect and put a stop to it.

For me, I haven't got the slightest interest in letting a bot have all my fun for me.

But as has been mentioned, botting was already quite possible, and closing the source never stopped a de-compiler or a packet sniffer. If Adobe can't stop the crackers, what makes you think [insert Ryzom owner] could?

I just can't figure out why you'd want to.

Frankly, I'm a big Open Source proponent, but at this point in the case of Ryzom, I don't give a yubo's posterior who owns it as long as the servers come back up and development gets rolling again.

Back on-topic:

No news.

We all know that, Somnus, but as far as that don't destroy the fun to other players, it's ok.
I don't care if someone feels good with 4 master digs with botting, i just was very pleased of my (almost) single master in lake dig absolutely no botting at all. At the end, i got a lot of fun doing that, that's what a game is meant for.
