why indeed ?

The only things of real value you can get out of a computer game are enjoyment of the game itself, and the company of other people.
neither of which is directly limited by the lifetime or lack thereof, of the game.
Apples and oranges.

For one thing, most of my guild (an established Kami guild) has, as I have said, moved to other games for a while... meaning I will get far less of the "company of other people" than I did previously. Universal was very quiet when I got online last night, as well.

And yes, enjoyment is limited by the knowledge of (for example) an impending and final end to a lifetime. Everyone knows they're going to die in real life, and they even know it could be tomorrow, but they continue living life normally anyway... unless, of course, doctors tell them they have a disease and may have only a month left to live. Then their outlook changes dramatically.

The uncertainty of Ryzom's fate does effect people and whether or not they enjoy the game. You can post links to irrelevant comic strips and make snide remarks all you please, but the fact is that people are leaving Atys like a sinking ship, and my point still stands.

The difference between you and me is that I'm willing to admit speak frankly (as opposed to grinning and cheerfully assuming everything will work out just fine in the end), demand changes, and not resort to pointless insults.

The only thing really dragging down my enjoyment of the game is the rash of negativity.

In the immortal words of the old man being thrown on the wagon in "Holy Grail":

"I'm not dead! I feel happy! I feel happy!"

Soooo,

Let's all try to be nice to each other, whatever our opinions might be.

If you don't have anything nice to say...

...And if there's anything worth saying, then by all means, say it like you mean it!

Well for me I have been pretty busy for the past 3 weeks. I have started working on a IBM Virtual Project on my own in hopes of getting hired. They have 5 different Virtual Projects and I picked the one that had the least in it (so it would be easier to create a "Wow!" effect).

Almost all my free time is devoted to this at home. I am trying to finish by the end of the year because I do not know if I will still be working there on Jan-1st. I am a contractor and that departement is heading into budget cuts and fusions. There are people that are going to be affected (they announed it in August). We just don't know who.

This particular project is on the Torque engine and honnestly, I do not know they picked this engine. Almost no documentations existing (except very general stuffs). For someone like me wanting to create something, its taking 6-10 times longer due to lacking proper informations. The community hanging out at their forum has bits of infos they found out by luck.

By the way, its been over 3 weeks. What's the status ? I haven't followed news.

Servers up and working great. So long as you didn't let your subscription lapse, you should be good to come back and rejoin the fun.

No news on the buyout, other than some uninformed paranoia and also some wishful thinking.

The vague hints coming from those in positions to know anything at all are generally positive.

So still no official news? I hate this hanging on the edge thing going on now. I'm only a recent player, but I'm so in love with the game that I swear I will cry if it goes. Yes, call me immature, call me pathetic, but Ryzom is just amazing. It's my first (and it looks like soon it will be my only[/]) MMORPG ever, and the experience has been just ...something else. The community is amazing, the lands are amazing, the nitty gritty details and all the options open to you on Ryzom are just endless. I could never get bored of it, and yet somehow companies fail to notice this beautiful gem we've got?
