Just like RL....I do not visit areas in RL that are 'contested'....or I accept the consequences.
Of course I have the 'right' to visit these contested places....
EDIT - this is Atys...not Utopia.

This is Atys, not the real world either

Imagine if you had to go to Iraq for the groceries.

Nope. Expecting them to show some concern for others.
In these areas, and during Ep2, there were people who were primarily there to fight and kill each other and there were those who just wanted to take part without being exposed to the ganking, griefing, PKing and smack talking that goes on.
Both people could get their full play experience if those who wanted to fight fought others who wanted to fight and left those who didn't alone.
Nobody's experience is then devalued and everyone gets what they want EXCEPT those who only get their jollies by killling people who don't want to be (ganking, griefing, harassing etc).
This idea seems to be a bit elusive to some people though :/

you guessed my 'contested place' reference
edit - unfortunately you are correct, it is the real world....these are the people that inhabit Atys, the two are inseperable and the needs/desires/demands of all must be listend to (if not always acted on). PvP zones are an evil I am prepared to accept..and avoid....

Oh so am I. Apparently the PR problem isn't as acute as it once was but OPs remain PvP exclusive as was Ep2 as are Spires etc. If there's other options there's no problem.

Why would I go to Iraq for groceries when I could go to the cornershop owned by my mate?

Precisely. You don't go to Iraq for the groceries because you don't have to.
If you did have to you might get antsy.

So whatcha complainin' about then? Go get some "groceries" off your allies.
Unless of course your "groceries" are the PvP content and I got confused by the analogy

Tho why you would be complaining about having to PvP to take part in PvP is beyond me. Only other thing I can think of that would be "groceries" is the OP products.

Outpost 'content' is more than Crystals, more than special mats, more than flowers and more than just PvP. There are many reasons to want to be a part of something. Fact is, no matter what you want from it, you have to expose yourself to the PvP.
