Re: The Episode 2 cancellation thread

Ok, I came........I saw......I yawned.
I ignored the 1st four hours of the event (KT was pretty good) but I actually stood at the Pyr spawn for the 1st hour watching the same peeps spawn every 2 or 3 minutes over and over again. Was like a whacky copy or cloning machine spittin out carbon copy droids every few seconds. Spawn.....run to temple.....port....die....spawn...run to temple...port...die
I then plodded over to the temple to see what was going on. Figured let me see if I can involve myself in the story for a bit before walking away from it. Hung out for about four hours crafting away as it seems crafters were not getting ganked back in their homelands so maybe it does give those not interested in PvP'ing something to do. At about 4 am, I got a PM saying that I was No. 1 on the leaderboard for crafting and that our guild was in No. 2.
Cool, I thought until I asked....what percentage of the thing is done and the answer was 1% on one of the 3 lines. A good 24 hours after the event started I was shocked to see that I was still leading the board and that our guild had jumped up to number one also. I checked the progress and saw that the temple's 3 progress lines added up to just 3% out of 300% and realized, yeah right......I might just sit here for 3 months and do this !. Even if they triple output, it will take a month. Sorry, too boring.
On the other hand, I did take the tp trip to get a peek at the new lands and looking at the map I saw another version of "boob island". Now that term requires some explanation but when I went to type in guild chat "map / area size looks a lot like noob island", l missed the "n" and got "b", the next letter over to the left on the keyboard and the name kinda "took hold".
So, no, personally I will not be going back to "boob island". Not cause I can't hack it (being a named purple boss) but because I have no interest in gameplay of this type. I do like the fact that the PvP is confined to "boob island". Even though the temple sites are FvF areas, the players thankfully have chosen to limit their killing to the "boob island" site. If it stays this way, frankly, I can live with it.
However, where I think this will break down is with what one can do with "honor points". If honor points can be used to "get stuff" that a player who chooses not to participate can't get, then my tolerance flies out the window. Though, if it gets you stuff that only has an advantage on "boob island", the system still workls for me.
With the "boob island" providing the outlet for the PvP that many desire, I see little cause to retain FvF in the main areas of Atys. In the story line, it seems real stoopid that I can port to an oppossing faction capital and walk around undisturbed but that if I walk into PR where both factions are faced with a superior common enemy, that I can still expect to be ganked.
As for the experience, I got no xp for crafting using all the patterns that were made available to me and the honor points given crafters are less than 1/4 what an equivalent level player gets in fighting / harvesting so all I walked away with was my toon name on a board. Frankly that doesn't hiold much appeal for me.
Nevrax seems to have forgotten what they thought about the game's best features .... a look at the faturers link on the web site says:
"Supporting the dynamic invasion system, Ryzom provides battles on a scale that have never been seen in an MMOG before. ....Imagine standing outside a city, watching a hill in the distance, and seeing the first members of a wave of Kitins appear. Now imagine hundreds more following them, moving as a single, swarming army. Battles of this scale will require dozens of players working together to fend off serious invasions."
Well that's about all we can do.....imagine...unless we managed to be available during the few raid events that have occurred since retail launch.
For those of us who loved the cooperative part of the game, the most compellimng features ahve been set aside. The desire seems to be to get a slice of the warcraft pie but it seems Blizzard pays more attention to these boards then Nevrax does. It was suggested here in the forums some time back that Nevrax add special features during holiday periods to spice things up...liike spells to transform your enemies and / or your toon into a holiday related character of item.
My son logged onto WoW yesterday to find he could do just that as they can change their toons into holiday related characters like bats and snakes....they could bob for apples and go trick or treating. I wouild love to have been able to turn a kincher into a pumpkin and then "do a gallagher" on it with my "smash-o-matic" mace.
So, in conclusion, the FvF element on boob isle frankly isn't the disaster, as yet, that I saw it to be. If the conflict is limited to boob isle and doesn't spill over to the rest of Atys using "the faction" excuse to gank peeps at existing mainland FvF zones I can live with it.
During FBT I lobbied to have the white dashed lines put on the maps so we would know when we crossing into more difficult regions, it would seen that a similar indictor is warranted for FvF zones. Again, I would much prefer that FvF proponents restrict their activity to boob island, but if they can not honor the request to leave neutrals out of the conflict when they explore Atys, then at least we ought to be forwarned and be able to use the map to determine a way around the zone.
