I am not saying this is what happened, for I did not see it, just what some players consider "wrong". You say you craft armor, imagine that you craft 10 vests and sell them at 10k each. Then I buy all of them and resell them at 20k. It is true that you, as a crafter, may be fine, for you actually sold your items and you got your money, and that you no longer own them, but those players that would have bought them at 10k no longer can, and I have added no value.
I agree that this problem will naturally go away as soon as Haddo resumes selling jewels and selling at the usual price, so the market will regulate itself. But you can't help this being perceived as wrong by the community.
So let me get this correct,
-Haddo lists his jewels
-Person X buys all these jewels
-Person X lists all these jewels at price + y% markup
-players by person X's jewels made by Haddo for more money.
I guess the real issue here is that Haddo is around to see that all his items sold at once. If he was, he would restock the merchacts, thus killing the markup of Person X.
Now if Haddo is not around to relist more items, then Person X is only going to make money once on this batch and will have to wait for Haddo to return to repeat the same pratice. Short term gain.
I have to say unless the profit is in the region of around 4000-5000% there are many fast and more effective ways to make money.
Crafting any stuff yourself will net loads of money and I am talking low lvl not the 150+ crafting, I was making money from the moment I started crafting (Mob mats and Harvested, self sourced as there is a real problem with the value of a mat compared to an item made from the mat)
Life Real and Game is full of middle men/women:
Travel agents
Car sales
Supermarkets
etc
The middle men take the risk that the item they buy and resell with actually sell! if it doesn't sell the loss is huge compared to the potential profit.
If all markups were completely removed from the game, the following would happen:
-No one would craft as the materials that go into the item are worth more than the item.
-All trading would be done via private sale (hey thats how it was before we had merchant NPCs)
-No one would buy materails, so no one would collect them
-As there is no need to hunt anymore and no one has any equipment to go hunting in the world would stop turning.
Of course then above wouldn't happen, because guilds would supply their crafters and take the equipment in exchange. So in the long run the only people who would suffer are non-guilded players (the future players of the game).
As for the +10k for no value add .....
1. They now carry the risk, not me the crafter ... I can use the money to level and make better stuff.
2. I get my money faster so my life is improved.
3. If the market will stand items at 100% markup on the crafter, the craft has their prices wrong (too cheap).
4. As for players losing out .... if they can afford the item at 100% markup and get good use out of the item then I don't see how they have lost anything..... what else is there to spend dapper on other than equipment and storage?
I hope Haddo read this thread and increases his prices, this will encourage other crafters to make jewels (huge profits overcome the grind feeling). As more jewel crafters exist the market will flood and rebalance the price. The 'profiteers' would get a look in! They can only do what they do because Haddo has a monopoly.
Don't kill the profiteer, kill their profit ..... if theres no money easy money to be made they will be forces to do something much more fun than collect dapper by relisting items.
