I'm a 113 elementalist/minor healing and affliction.
Level your hp a bit with fighting is a good idea. You can also do this with harvesting or crafting if you like. If you want to level magic fastest, I suggest crafting only, and crafting one item only. This will allow you to add suppliment to your stats, and earn you some extra income later on.
Time credits are great. They function well in your 'pre-emptive' attack. I can only cast about 8-10 max damage spells before I need a self heal or regen. So using a time cred saves me about 1/2 a spell, which can mean a lot depending on your sap/situation.
They also help when I've got a tank and no healer, balance the minor time creds with your regen and you can cast a bit more steadily.
They also work great for afflictions. If you are afflicting 1k or less mobs, then you have a good chance of holding the link for quite some time. Instead of draining sap and hp, why not just use a few extra seconds to get your stun down and let your two melee buddies hack at it? aside from minor healing you can level perpetually without rest on smaller mobs.
Always buy the range credits. These are key beyond key. HUGE sap savers.
Don't forget Sap/Stam heal. They are just as important as your normal heal. No one will say different. They start out weak, but around stam/sap heal 3 they really are worth something.
You can use fear to 'yo-yo' certain mobs. Enchanting your glove with one in case you get a resist as an emergency backup is a good idea. If you are pleveling elemental like I was, get a good enchant on your amp for more damage and push the 'slay' button!
I always thought izams resist acid more...maybe it's just luck.
If you want fast leveling in elemental without taking the time to put an elemental spell on your amp and having recharge time...mow down mobs at 700xp a pop. This averages out accross the levels as 3 spells. You can get 3 spells off with a 75+ amp before most mobs reach you.
If you are crafting and at an adequate level where you need the higher level mats, go for the 2k kills. Because remember...a sprightly mektoub drops 10 mats, craft something with that and it's going to be roughly 1.2k experience. So you're really getting more than 3k for the kill. ( at your level sprightlies are problaby to hard, they are the highest level mob in Cities of Intuition.)
You'll learn this in CoI but when you're around 60 and you head to Maiden Grove you will learn the true value of understanding the Raid engine. Messabs, Gingos, Torbaks, Bawaabs etc all behave VERY differently. Different Sight ranges, different herd movements, different group behavior etc. You'll die a lot at first, unless you are very careful, but once you get the hang of it you can see patterns that will help you later on.
Grouping is essential. For the fastest, balanced leveling I suggest:
1 Tank: healing and elemental combined.
1 Caster: one person does affliction, one person does elemental.
2 Tanks: Affliction and some healing.
2 Casters: 2 elemental and/or 1 affliction/1 elemental and one healer
Tanks+1 caster: one healer, one affliction/elem
Tanks & 2+ casters: At least one healer depending on what you kill, and the rest do whatever.
I leveled my elemental rather furiously for a while and forgot my afflictions. Now it's going to be hard to get my afflictions up unless I group with casters. Wierd eh? I prefer casters over tanks. The reason is that I can land a blind and the other person can nuke it before it gets to us. With 2 guys healing each other downtime i nil.
Tanks suck for leveling with defensive affiction. However offensive afliction (blind) is really nice.
edit: Ok if you can convince your tanks to use accurate attack instead of increased damage, stun leveling can be very nice. A majority of tanks I've grouped with are complete idiots who don't realize that 1.75 damage/2 is not as much as 1/1 damage. Mobs still dodge during stun but don't fight back, so make sure every hit counts so stamina doesn't go to a complete waste. Do tanks realize this? nooooooo. Normally they use up all their stam in a fight, and keep asking you for more. How are you going to maintain your link? You aren't trying to level heal here! The mob will attack if I heal your crappy stam so you can miss again! In my case throwing a heal will destroy
everyone's xp. ugh..I guess that's why they play meatshields though
Don't bother getting Rot until you go to maiden grove. Slaveni first start to appear there (ignore the CoI missions...unless ANYONE can mention a plant in CoI?). Slaveni are nice because they don't move. just make sure you have a tank to take the damage! they fire ranged back at you, so you get no pre-emptive strikes other than your first one.
Hope this helps.
