Any tips for compiling qnet? I cannot successfully execute the available .rpm build on my FC1 box. It installs fine (though i had to install fortune-mod first) but when I execute it, I get:
qnet: relocation error: qnet: undefined symbol: _ZN7QActionC1EP7QObjectPKc
Thoughts?
Best regards,
Irving

i don't have fortune or fortune-mod installed. i remember just doing a force install with no dep checks and it runs. it's not the best app in the world, but it will get you into the support channel.
i think i am using the QNet version 0.50 .rpm. I have no idea how to use QNet other than the basic commands like ".tell <user> <message>"
I'm not sure what I did wrong with qnet install, but the list of users doesn't show up in the right hand area similar to where IRC users would show up. if i do a ".who" it will list all the users, and put them into that column on the right, but then every chat message goes into that column...heh. i just avoid trying to figure out who's in the channel altogether :0).
QNet is just obscure enough that any real info or help on it is long absent, lol.

For the record,
$ telnet chat.ryzom.com 6002
just works although it has a rather basic user interface

Yep, I did that just after I posted yesterday. It works fine, though local echo is a pain
I'll try the force install of qnet when I get to the office later. Thanks for the idea.

never thought to try telnet :0P
but from how telnet looks in my tricked out wterm versus the bulky and inefficient QNet...i think i may just stick with telnet :0D. it's much more efficient and the echo is hardly a problem compared to QNet's problems, you'll see :0)
I am going to modify my HOW-TO and post about telnet and dump QNet as I like it much better :0)

Heh, well, if we're comparing windowmaker screenshots with telnet sessions to chat.ryzom.com, then . . .

Eterm -x?
looks like a borderless Eterm, or aterm? i've never messed with aterm so don't really know all that it can do...
my screenshot is using wterm...transparency is satisfying enough for me to avoid using Eterm :0)
does anyone still use....xterm...? rofl!

Eterm -n Chat -g 80x50 -f white -x --scrollbar no --buttonbar no --trans --tint DarkGrey --font-fx none
That sets it to the window name Chat, in an 80x50 window, with a font color of white, with no border, no scrollbar down the side, and no menu on the top, with transparency to the root window but with a tint of the RGB value DarkGrey, and with no drop shadow on the font (many terms put a drop shadow in by default).

Nice HOW-TO, GFunk
I felt free to translate it to german and post it in the german tech support - hope that's okay for you...

it's fine as long as you send in tickets for a linux native client request
and get others to send in tickets too, hehe.
I've had some windows-only ebay surfer types send in linux client request tickets :0).
