Choppy sky?
Re: Choppy sky?
From those pictures they don't look cartoony at all, they look better than the current sky sets.
Re: Choppy sky?
To me the new clouds look more real then the old flying cotton ball clouds. The only problem I have with the new clouds is the way they move.

Re: Choppy sky?
It seems to me that the skies have always moved kinda choppily since I first started playing, back in the first week of October. I always thought it was intentional, though, sort of like the 'static' coming every now and then as you play... kinda like an imperfect Matrix simulation or something...
I'd been thinking that, maybe, just maybe, the world of Atys is a simulation, and that our characters are actually somewhere else, a la 'The Matrix'. But that's just me hehehe

Re: Choppy sky?
All of my movements seem choppy now, after Patch 2 part 1. The sky only seemed choppy to me when it changed from day to evening to night to morning to day, now its more choppy and jerky. What gives? the choppiness of the time of day changes has been the only thing that has really bothered me and now it seems worse.
In addition to the sky though, my movements seem a bit more jerky and less smooth. I know that could be related to network traffic and a host of other things but I still think it could be related to the patch. These patches always have a ton of bugs and I have started to take the approach of just don't play for a couple of days after the patch until they fix all of the bugs over the couple of days following.
Thanks Cerest for fowarding the cloud request.

Re: Choppy sky?
*shrugs* I have been taking the choppiness in strides, I have seen this very same thing in other MMO's as they try to adjust the packet size being sent from client to server, basically trying to get more bang for there information, problem is, when they do this, it throws the clients out of balance.
The 'chop' or 'pause' is minute, but noticable, after this happens for a while, you get a 'please wait' box, which goes away shortly, this is because you have lost a good sync, all of this is generally do to the packet size being to large and there receiving buffer is dropping packets.
This is not a client side issue.
I wouldn't worry about it to much, they will fix it eventually, if they don't there servers will start to crash and reboot on there own, this will happen more and more as time goes by until it is fixed.

Has anyone told you "You Rock" today?

Re: Choppy sky?
Thanks for the info Zumwalt.
I knew this could be what is creating the choppiness but I didn't want to suspect or accuse too much unless others were experienceing this too. I know that Nevrax has to balance the performance but why should the sky animations be so dependant on the streaming of the packets back and forth. Shouldn't they be on a local timer that syncs up every so often (every 30 sec maybe). They are not so dependant on immediate happenings as really they are just there to look good and represent a time of day and or weather. I understand if it is linked to the real time weather system how that would create problems. I am just a fan of offloading as much data and tracking stuff to the client in order to reduce internet traffic that can cause sync problems. It makes for a more fluid experience.
I can't complain too much I am sitting on a T-1 most of the time when I play so obtaining bandwidth is not an issue for me. Maybe I am sending too much data, too quickly for them.
Either way that could explain my general chopiness at the moment instead of it being a local communication issue.
Of course I am also a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to things so I always have to back off a bit when things are not exactly perfect, lol.

I'm not sure if its related, but I noticed my forage bars were choppy too. They used to be much smoother as they moved up and down. Now it looks really like it jerks forward and backward in increments.
Re: Choppy sky?
what i miss too are the sandstorms in fyros, there used to be huge storms all over the desert...your character needed to protect his eyes by lifting his arm... *miss a lot*

That was done because the slow movement of the bars didn't reflect the state the bars were in not accurate enough so it caused death. I first had to get used to that as well but now I like it a lot more.
