You have been warned there are no real quests as such and I DO and DON'T agree.
I DO cos it is true that apart the "Kill and Bring back" and the "fetch or harvest this for me", the quest situation is quite low atm. At least for what i will call the "Directed quests".
By directed quest, I mean long term quest why many NPC involved and many things to do, Tho, those are still directed as any player with have to follow the exact same route and do exact same thing. This results in Quest guides and so on... (you surely know about that)..
This game is different and this is the I DON'T:
I don't think this game is a quest (directed quest) game, this game is an EVENT GAME:
things which happens in the game (guides and GM events) are one-off: never the same, never the same people, never the same story..(sometime the same mobs to kill: we are at war against kitins that is) ...
Still, what makes the originality of the game is that its all but static..
Examples or event:
-Matys (one of the 4 continents) Kitin Invasion: that was few month ago: whole mainland of Matys crowded with killers creatures, ppl rushing over the entire continent on region Chat : "we got a boss in Davae, please everyone regroup...."... GREAT STUFF...
-Fighting Contest: (participated in 2 so far, first one i was in game for like 1-2 weeks lol) Divided Melee fight / Mage fight and one mixed serie. Naked boxing as well, so no equipment stats ...
-Fashion show (player organised then backed-up by guides and GM).
-Weddings (one last week-end) and another one coming soon....
-Group trips from one continent to the other....
and many more ..
Some of these events were organised by Guides/ staff ,some by players, some by guilds...
One could say that those do not happen everyday, happens at set time (set by guides or players), so it might happen that on a Sunday, you would like an event and nothing is on..
2 choices:
-the usual harvesting/crafting/grinding (which i love)
-get some folks and make your own event: maybe try to get some of your guildees to this far away place which is great fighting spot not far from a teleport.. (2 events in one: great fight party, discovery of a new land for some and new Teleport ticket...).
Ok, more quest 9maybe directed one) will be in game soon with guild outpost takeover and stuffs like that.. I just personally hope that the ingame player will keep that motivation, spirit, amability, helpfulness we can find in game atm...
That and the events replace a lot of the usual RPG not-so-good Directed quest...

It helps indeed as I feel so lost! Feel a tad better knowing its harder for all at first. I think I forgot to go back and train! Only been on this board for a few hours with two lil threads but you folks have been a tremendous help allready. Really looking forward to getting home and logging in. If server fixed, I guess tho that is. That does bring up another question - How often is game down???? I need my daily fix. lottsa down time??? Or is today not normal?
Re: Questions about the game(formerly: Everquest)
Down time is not much really, they have there patch times, those are the longest, anything other than that, its a glitch or hickup, and they get it back up fast.
For those who know about today, I have a supprise for you tomorrow.

Re: Questions about the game(formerly: Everquest)
I played an EQ druid, mage and a few others. I also was a volunteer guide for EQ for about six months.
MAIN difference to me is LOOT. I left EQ due to the outright IMPOSSIBLITY of gaining gear remotely close to what I needed...when I needed it.
Crafting system in Ryzom blows EQ outta the water. EQ the failures were MUCH more often than the successes...even at HIGH levels it was possible to ruin six WEEKS of gathering materials in less than a minute, and still not end up with a full suit of the armor you wanted. Ryzom...I can guarantee you that you will NOT do that, you will end up with a FULL suit of armor, as long as you have the crafting and foraging levels to do it, in LESS than two days of casual playtime.
Grouping versus soloing. In EQ there were your solo classes and your grouping classes, this changed a BIT in POP, but still...some classes were preferred over others. In Ryzom, there are NO Limits on which classes you can be, not based on race, not based on ANYTHING. if you decide with ALL other classes at a very high level, that you want to add a class you ignored...it MIGHT be difficult to catch it up...but it WILL be possible.
Looks, lets face it, after a while Norath got OLD. The graphics were more likely to TELL you you were in a game than draw you in and GRAB you. In Ryzom...I was STUNNED the first night. THE SKY! WOW! And if you have anywhere near a decent system and connection, there is NO lag and you can have eye candy that would make an EQ player wimper.
The skill system takes a while to learn, but once you do...Baby! you are HOOKED!
The ONE thing that still has me stunned is that the GM's in Ryzom are respectful, EXTREMELY prompt(responce times in SECONDS not hours or DAYS), and have more than a little bit of a clue. The Ryzom dev's LISTEN to the players and actually more often than not give us what we want. The nerf bat HAS been out and about, but it is not GROSSLY over used as it was in EQ.
Now if you were into the RARE loot, CRAPPY crafting system, condending developers that ignored players wants and beat players with the nerf bat regularly, GM's that didn't care, were WAY over worked and responded to petition in hours, and camping things until your BRAIN bled...then Ryzom will fail to please you, but...if you hated those "features", then welcome home.

Agree with Zumwalt. Patches have been coming about every 10-14 days, always on weekdays, and you can pretty much forget about playing before noon on such days. Other than that, the game is up almost all the time.lily123 wrote:It helps indeed as I feel so lost! Feel a tad better knowing its harder for all at first. I think I forgot to go back and train! Re: Questions about the game(formerly: Everquest)
sidenote at the directed quests: i agree with you that those are usually cookie cutter stuff, but even the one quest i did test more thoroughly had me think up alternative solutions it throughout the whole thing, because of the simplicity of the tasks and the skillful combination of those into an intruiging whole
and the best of it: that quest could even be used as an event, with higher players gathering people that haven't solved it yet and making a race out of it, once again, it's simply teeming with possibilities and it's only up to the players to make them come real
