I would probably go ahead and start the free trial now as the first set of new content will be patched in on Dec 14th. It gives you all weekend to get off of noobie island.

However I could also suggest you wait until after the patch and see what everyone says. Content is on its way (if what the press releases say is true).

I like the game and while I have some gripes about certain things, I'm hooked. Over all if the content of "Patch 2" goes well I will be hooked for a long time. They got my money, nuff said.

I tested the upcomming patch2 on the ATS (advanced test server), the game is going to be amazing. For me its the best mmorpg ive played in awhile.

I suggest to try it now too, anyway you will have to make a couple of lvls before trying the new content.

I am just assuming his beta login is still a valid login with the system, remember there are now 3 different logins, so he atleast has access to the boards.

Things that make the game good:
Community is mature and helpful
GM/guides are the fastest responders in the industry (even 911 calls don't respond as fast in my area, 5 minute response for 911, and less than a minute for gm's). GM's in game are respectful, speak CLEAR English, do everything the rules permit them to do to help you.

The devs are responsive, if player base FREEKS out due to a patch, they tweek the patch a bit. The time from patch to freek out to repatch is LESS than a week total. (THIS one here is why I stay, Devs in Ryzom are NOT verant devs. You will NOT get kicked in the teeth and FEEL the devs laughing at your pain.)

Ways the game will improve:
Travel is nigh on impossible, which I don't think is right. We got FROM PR to where we are, we did it once...I am rather certain that we should be able to do it again. There would be guards and caravans of assistants along the way.


Quests and more storylines ARE INCOMING, patch two has some, and I am SURE that the patches after that have more.
