There has been little downtime in ryzom at all since release, and even then I agree with what has been said each time it is down. Patches are essential and sometimes maintanience their end requireing of them to take down the server for said periods of time.
Recently they have always been "generous" in their estimated downtimes, ie if they say 2 hours downtime they normally get it back in 1 to 1 and a half hours provided nothing goes wrong.
Every thread I go on atm has helbreat finding something petty to moan about and Im tired of it.
With you on this post m8 im sick of seeing moans on this forum, There are other things you can do and this is called HAVING A LIFE
Go do something else play something else pretend ur in ryzom do what ever just stop you pety moans please.
Cheers

having a gf and 2 kids isnt a life? lol this is the only free time i get to play and its consumed by a patch so its a day wasted for me maybe get 2 hours in later if the server comes up when they say it will if not then who knows

I totaly agree but it would realy help if the "Server status" part of the official website included the Shard status. This would stop people messing about trying to connect. All it says currently is server OPEN, useless if the shard is closed

because if we moan maybe they will find a way to patch faster as 10 hours isnt fast to me its a whole working day i know in the real world you expect people to work from 9 - 5 anyway so you think they wont notice the patch but guess what not everyone works 9-5

Ooohh the lovely downtime
Think of the things it enables you to do, i know Ryzom is so addictive, life starts to suffer, hence the need for server downtime, when else can you do your groceries? watch that dvd catching dust or give your GF some real attention etc, a true addict *needs* server downtime to do the real life things that he dint have time for because of ryzom
See, my point is, theres always a positive explanation
even if you cant live without ryzom, its for your own best the server goes down once in a while

helbreat, I just have to ask...
Don't you have anything better to do with 10 hours of your life?
It will be back tonight, just give it a rest. I am happier to wait and allow maintanience on the server than rush back in without needed maintanience

Anyway, the serious reply:
I have been a sysadmin, ad i know what to imagine they have to do, now its your turn, imagine yourself todo hardware upgrades on a server park.
Remind yurself that you want t do it secure, so no hurries.
And you got to test and be prepared for unexpected incidents that take some hours to correct.
To plan a hardware upgrade on the serverpark ad install a new software version on that and testing ad making sure its all in sync and error free, i think the estimated downtime is a very neat one.
Also note tha a server park isnt a home pc you can fiddle around wit and accpet some errors or beauty erors, a serverpark has to be correct in any way. no toying around like at home
just imagine hwats needed to be done, think about it, 10 hours is short, and if you still think its long, take 5 computers and a advanced database-based server sftware and its users, built the hardware, OS instalatuion and serversoftware confguration includin al tha comes wit it in 10 hours
i bet you you wont make it i time!

if it wasnt for me posting youd have no brown nosing to do so think yourself lucky you have someone to use as your pet to gain brownie points
these 10 hours were time i had free if it wasnt time i had free it prob would still bother me that it takes 10 hours for such trivial things to be done im actually making a list of games for people to test out while the server is down at this moment in time as they will prob find the bad graphics but extreme amount of content good while they wait
not all of us can spend 10 hours a day sucking up to nevrax as you do

If i had a GF i am sure i could find something slightly more "interesting" to do with her for a few hours than hanging around these boards complaining.
Having a gf and kids does not automatically mean you have a life. I would certanly not want to live a life where ryzom beeing down for a few hours would be so terrible.
