hi,

the default pistol ammo that comes with the ammo craft skill gives a crappy 395xp... is rifle ammo giving better xp if i buy it?

No, they use the same same amount of mats (2/1/1).

Excelent post - couple of observations and tips for ranged combat.

If your going to use a launcher of any type - just make one 6 round clip while in town and then just carry the construction mats resin/oil in to the field. You can easily carry 10 clips worth of raw mats and just construct in the field after you use your 6 shots. This assumes you have ammo crafting plans.

Try and get a fear enchantment on your gun of choice. This works well with rifles as you can push mobs away if they get into melee range and keep on firing.

The launcher is area effect . If you can find a nice group of tightly packed mobs (scapering Capryni are a fav) - you can decimate a small herd in 3 shots and then switch to pistol/rifle to kill any straggelrs who make it into melee range.

I hope that the devs develop ranged weapons a bit more, some suggestion would include:

Burst mode: Stanza to allow the rapid firing of multiple shots 1,2,3 etc
Butt-smash: Close combat smashing attack with weapon - possible stun
Sighted: increases accuracy for range weapons only
scoped: increases range as a percentaage of max
Quickfire: increases ROF at expense of accuracy

and some new types of ammo including some DOT ammo....
